Thermo Fans are Stuck On!!! Sun, 08 August 2004 12:38 Go to next message
Hey,
I need some help with my thermo fans.
I have a 88 2VZFE Camry
My thermo fans are stuck on, even when the car is not running.
I just turn the key to 'RUN' and they start running. There not
really supposed to do that because they are supposed to come on when the temp sensor rises above 87 degrees celcius.

This doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes when I disconnect my battery, and then reconnect, they work fine.

Engine power is almost always lower when this happens. Sluggish and surgy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx.
JC.

This can also happen if the wire falls off the coolant temp sensor, or if the wiring is just a bit dodgy. Check all your connections.

Have you been fiddling with the air-con recently?

The air-con controls the fans as well...

I haven't touched the aircon at all. It's like, if the computer doesn't get reset properly, the fan sticks on and the car doesn't run properly.
The problem is also only with the left hand thermo fan. The right hand one doesn't come on. It usually does when the car is running good, as it goes on and off with the temp. But now, it doesn't at all and the left hand one is just stuck.

I think the left one is for air con.

I have disconnected the left hand one and am gonna just run it around the block to see if the performance is changed. Won't be able to do that for a day or two, coz im waiting on a K&N panel filter before I put my airbox back on.

Appreciate all of your help guys.

Regards.

uuuhh yeah they do, the first two switches out of cars from a wreckers didnt work

Edit: you will find that the "left hand" one is constantly on, its the actual cooling fan, the other is for A/C

on that note, dont drive the car with that fan disconnected. go to a wreckers and pay $5 for a replacement switch, or buy a new one from repco for $60.
