18R-G is:
DOHC w/ bucket and shim valve train
Dual Solex sidedraft carburettors
1968CC
~140HP in original form

It's available in Australia second hand from time to time.

Shouldn't be hard to adapt to your car. Perhaps the R motor's engine mounts/sump may interchange to give you a workable combination. What transmission are you currently running?

As a point of interest, is your 12R a 5 main bearing or 3 main bearing engine?

she is a 3 main bearing engine strapped to a bullet proof 4 speed manuel
the gearbox case is made of Iron if that helps identify the box?

If you have an RT81, the box is a W40 (4 speed variant of the Celica steel case 5 speed).

I really wouldn't bother working the little 12R. I know someone who slotted a Rover V8 in one.

The W40 should bolt to the 18R-G.. I think.

It's bolt-in for W50 transmissions, but I seem to remember old W40's having some strange non-standard or non-interchangable characteristics compared with W5# boxes..?

That may have been for extension housings though..?

Yes correct she is an RT81
does anyone know wether (just for kicks ) the 12R is built stronge enought to take a turbo even if it is a small one
remembering this is a cast iron head truck engine

PS I have 2 spare 12Rs in full running order
and a 13t-u that I'm not sure if it will even kick over.

The bellhousing for the 12R to W40 will be different to the 18R to W40 bellhousing. The 3 main bearing R motors have a different tail on the motor - almost like a cowl around the flywheel that is an extension of the block.

As a side note, the W55-9 bellhousings will not bolt up to the W40 or W50 boxes.

Okay, so a new motor will require a transmission change.

Nah. To run the 18RG all he needs is a bellhousing from a 4 speed RT104. Probably a whole $30 from your friendly wrecker.

Obviously you'll need to check where the engine mounts are - the 12R (and I think all those 3 main bearing motors) has engine mounts right at the front. Not sure where the 18RG mounts are located.

OK I'm well aware that dropping a racing engine or a just plain bigger donk would make my corona faster what I'm more interested in is the novelty of getting more power out of the 12R I need every ones thoughts on things like either putting a head spacer in and adding a turbo and an SU carby orrrrr shaving the head and extracting her
ya know things like that

come to think of it hey Brad and others who know about the 7R

well ok lets talk about the 13T-U this is a very torquey 1.8 OHC 4cyl wich is rumoured to be one of the free'st revving engines for it's time (it's suposed to have a twin chamber head) inventing a 13T-UGTE sounds kinda cool
by the way I LOVE Torque!! nothing makes me smile like low revs wet weather wheelspin in 3rd gear around corners and roundabouts

He was responding to your suggestion of a 4M in an RT81. If anyone's blind it must be you if you think that great lump is going to fit. Rolling Eyes

Ever heard of a 3TGTE? Better idea, less hassle.

have a hissy fit then.

but the cheapest easiest and best power gains are to be had from conversions not fixing up your current motor
