icon6.gif  STEELIES FOR US MA70 BOYS!! Fri, 20 August 2004 11:16 Go to next message
I bought some steelies last week.
Off an AU falcon. 16x6.5"

test fitted to ma70, they are a perfect fit, dont hit anything, clear everything nicely...so a good rim for some racing slicks Smile

All the better for me for the ma70 rear end going into my ma61 Very Happy

Anyway something for you guys with hot 70s!

Blake

This may sound like a strange idea, but most people might be looking for wider rims, not narrower ones.

slicks dont normally need the lots wider rims, which is why i specifically bought them, however im told ill need to screw the slick to the rim, otherwise ill have the rim spinning inside the tyre! Surprised

hence why you would need a wider rim..

u guys never seen the racing commonwhores with the pursuit rims on them? They arent widened....

edit: a 235 slick should go onto a 6.5" rim no dramas shouldnt it? I mean glen has 265s on a 7"...

I dont know anyone on here off hand thatd need wider than a 235 slick to have a drag..

Edit: Oos, you're talking about that ghey race with no corners so it doesn't matter.

First of all a 16" rim for drag slicks is NOT a good idea. You want a 15". Why it's not a good idea is that you will not find a drag slick in a 16" size easly.

6.5" wide is really bordering on too small for a drag slick, you don't want rear end movement at 160-170kph+

Look for an AU persuit rim from a cop car. They are a 15 inch rim and fit fine on the rear, you might want to widen them also to 8" for a 235 slick.

Also I'll add it starts to get dangerous running a drag slick on the back with normal street rubber on the front, you want front runners if you are going quicker than 13's.. The amount of movement you get in the deep end with front radials is scary.

Now if you think this is all too much just get another set of sawblades and stick a set of Nitto 550 or BFG Street Slicks on, if Supras can run into the 9.5's with them then they are not that bad.

Now if you were doing curcuit racing that is a whole different story. (Light rim with right sized slicks and proper pressures)

Yeah what he said... street slicks will be plenty for your purposes. Remember you can fit a very wide tyre in the back.

i picked up 3 for $40...that was an employee friday arvo price tho Wink

IM hoping 16" rims clear the ba falcon brake upgrade...ill bring one of the steelies around sometime norbie

these "street slicks"...im presuming they can go on these au rims? I need a spare set of rims for a day at the drags anyway, i dare say my rear tyres will get a workout on the day!
