I've still got that steering column surround for you too if you want it.

What are you planning engine wise?

nice one mate. Good to see you are getting stuck into it.

Rust removal is a big important part with these old things.

When it comes to motor time, the 1G-GE will be nice and smooth, and very reliable Very Happy Plus you get that 1G hum

So how much did the rust removal and the welding cost you? Did you end up buying those sills from Craig Vayne Sheetmetal Fabrications? Im looking at getting the same thing done to my RA28, but when i get it resprayed im thinking the new VW Golf yellow... Just wondering how much $$ it cost you

Well, yes, i did buy those new sills from craig vayne. But i got a mate to angle grind out the old ones and weld the new ones in so i can't really give you a relevant market price!
If it helps, i was quoted $600 a side by a smash repairer to do it professionally.

Have a look here: this is the phone number i called.
http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=28553

But, seriously, it really isn't worth it man, unless you've got a mate who is a PRO, and you'll have to fix all the other rust that'll be everywhere (rip up the carpet under where you put your feet, you'll be surprised).

Do yourself a favour - just buy a ra28 with no rust in it.

I already got my RA28, with minimul rust, it would be close to impossible to find one with no rust, it was hard enough trying to find one in good nic in the first place! I checked under the carpets before i brought the car, and i have no rust there. Only along the sills (due to those 'water catchers'), a bit on the lip of the bonnet (right side) and a few lil bits under the windscreen and bottom of the doors.

I got the number from there, but i didnt get an answer... just rang off...

Hi,

Good to see another old liftback on the road. When (or if) you do your RA28 cruise, lemme know. I'm sure mine's close enough to a '28 to partake.

Did you go to a local wrecker in Sydney? Which one and where? I'm on the look-out for some bits and pieces.
