dumbsh*t pedestrains (bad language warning) Tue, 24 August 2004 11:20 Go to next message
Hey all,

just thought I'd post the scariest f*cking thing ever to happen in my life...

cruising along doing 80 in the 80 zone...*at about 8 tonight* just cruising..as I pass a pub on a dark main road...dude steps in front of the corolla......no braking room..swerve to other lane...while hitting brakes...and down changing too second...pull on handbrake and spin ... into neutral -- outta the car to check that I didn't hit the dude...

and he says "shit man you're a good driver..."
me: "Dude you're ok yeah - I didn't get did I man?"
him "Fuck nah .. I'm cool - just gotta be more careful hey"
me: "Fuck yeh - so you're cool yes - no damage? don't gotta call cops or anything?"
him "Nah cops suck anyway fuck em..."

ever had your heart just stop everything go into slow motion...see everything happening....Fuck that shit...

told the dude to be more careful...got back in the car shaking as shit...drove about 200m down the road and called the cop shop just in case the dude does anything stupid like try and claim I hit him or something...

sat in the car just fucking freaked for about 20mins then drove home...

I tell ya someone is gonna get killed on south road near mick oshae's one day...no lighting...

good thing the corolla (2003) handles decently and copes with rapid gear changes....

well done mate seems like your reaction time was spot on. i hate that feeling were you are full of adrenillen and cannot stop shaking. I wont repeat the reasons why i have been left shaking in a car but it sucks. lucky there was room to pull out on the other side of the road.

i dont want to say i told u so but i always slow down around pubs cos of people like that
its something more people should know and thanx to ur everybody who reads this thread should hopefully slow down around pubs and stuff like that

i once got that feeling tho
2001
first time going down the old pac at nite and following some mates between hornsby and brooklyn
my mates (worked ke35 rolla and skyline gtst r31) are like alway just going round the next corner as i come round the last one (im in my trusty escort with a bit of work)
anyways i put the foot down and start trying to catch up
then i see the sign and it says something along the lines of 45km hair pin sharp corner blah blah blah

i look down at my speedo 150km SHIT!!!!
brakes on hard cluch pop the revs third pop the revs 2nd reef into the turn rev dump the clutch the arse hangs out full drift thru the corner SHIT ITS GETTING TIGHTER pump the hand brake while and turn from turn in to oposite lock back to turn in and back to oposite lock
just make it round the corner with about a pussy's wisker of room between the bum of my escort and the railing

roll the rest of the way down to were my friends are
get out the car and put my hands on the bonnet and have a smoke and wait till i stop shaking
my mates said i looked white a ghost

oh well turned around and fanged back home up the f3

sorry if my explanation wasnt to easy to follow it did happen 3 yrs ago and although now i have learnt how to drive with quite a fair amount of skill i still dont know how to explain driving i only know how to do it

You know it just dawned on me this morning:

'FUCK what if I'd been playing with the stereo'
or what if I'd glanced in my mirrors just as he stepped in front...

I'd have one fucked up guy and one fucked up corolla...

I swear when I go have a look today there better be some crazy skidmarks.....
(other than on the pair of undies I had to throw out from last night)

olihaub: believe me I'll be slowing down near that pub - without any doubt....thinking of writing the council and telling them to put some bloody lights in so that drunks don't get killed.

at least u stopped, went back and checked that he was ok. lots of ppl would have just kept driving, like that white car that hit and run the woman on grand junction road, killed her and then just turned his lights off and continued driving... Shocked

i dont know where this pub is, but i always keep a keen eye on pubs anyway, normally to make sure boongs dont try and jack me lol

Glad your okay mate but next time for your own safety and others just slow down around pubs and crowded areas. In Sydney many roads have reduce speed signs and go 50 signs in places like that.

One thing to add to you dumb pedestrians story is that I hate when your driving on any road where there is a pedestrian crossing. And the pedestrians just cross without looking right and left thinking they are always safe and wont get hit.

Just my two cents

Just remember that cars are supposed to give way to pedestrians on ped xings.
Mind you, they shouldn't be dumb enough to step out in front of a car that can't stop in time either.

I've had a few close ones as well.
Was coming towards a pub one night when a group start to walk out onto the road so i hit the brakes but wasn't going to stop in time.Everyone steps back bar one guy who was pulled back off the road by his mates,if not he was getting hit for sure.
Another one was driving down Hunter streetone night when a group cross the road,no problem plenty of room to slow down. They get to the middle of the road keep going so i watch the rest on the footpath to see what they are doing, which was to stay where they were.I sppeed back up to 60 and see a young girl start back to the footpath from where she came,i turn left and just missed running her over but still got her wrist with the door mirror.
And a funny one to finish with. Was picking up at the uni one night when the people that were waiting needed a 5 seater, they get in the car when some young bloke comes over and says that he has been waiting longer and tells them it's his cab.I said look get the next one as these people need a 5 saeter and this is it,so he stood in front of the cab and wouldn't let us move out of the carpark.I kept nudging the car foward so he got sick of backing up and sat on the bonnet.
I kept nudging foward and he eventually had to lift his feet off the ground Twisted Evil .Result was i let it go up to about 25-30kph and slammed on the brakes. He goes running down the road and i turn left out of carpark while he's trying not to fall over and shouting abuse. Laughing

About a year ago I was on my way to work doing about 40 as i'd just gone through a school zone. Anyway a huge Maori bloke started crossing from my right & stopped as he got to the median strip. I slowed down as I went past him & I see his leg fly up and kick my rear view mirror (mind you this was about 8 in the morning!). The glass in the mirror went flying!!!

I pulled over wondering wtf just happened & the people in the car behind me pulled over aswell. I got their details and then went up to the bloke who had just kicked my car. He reckoned I was in the wrong (his story - he indicated for me to stop, bulls**t), I argued with him & his supervisor for a few minutes but had to get to work.

At work I get a call from the police about a hit & run Shocked Apparently the bloke & his supervisor had made a report about me hitting the Maori bloke & injuring his elbow and then failing to stop afterwards.

After work I went in to the police station where I was questioned for about half an hour, astounded by the utter rubbish claimed by these people. I gave the police the details of my witness (the people behind me), showed them my car and left it at that. Haven't heard anything since...

Still got pictures of the damage, only cost me about $50 for a new mirror in the end. Funny thing is, the pics clearly show a footprint & if ever this was taken to court I think i'd be safe.

the pub around the corner gets pretty packed but they put those orange and white crash barriers all the way along the road during the uni games which was a heaps good idea as everyone would have been walking across the road

I know what you mean about the slow motion adrenalin shit.

I lost it in my old NA aw11 doing around 90. Tail came round, slow mo began everything went quiet, slid sideways for about 60 metres 5 seconds seemed like 30 seconds, hit a gutter, jumped it and and nudged a fence. Reality came back. Sat there spinning out afterwards for about 10 minutes.

Yep, Storys like this are good for all to read.

Ive never had a close call because I'd never forgive myself If I did. SLOW DOWN!!!! When your going through school zones, down busy pedestrian streets or pub zones.. I mean really Id rather slow to 30-40 for a few seconds rather than going 50-60 and killing someone. I also ride the brakes.. IE let the car almost roll with foot over brakes ready for anything.

but welldone ra23mad.. heh next time if your going slower you wont have to pull out the skills to avoid hitting someone Very Happy
