Hey all,

just thought some of you may be interested in the current state of my supra. hit a guardrail the other night up at orange, and took the nose off, no chassis damage, just panel damage.

it was on a dirt road, and i sorta came out of a corner a little too sideways and slid into the guardrail. still driveable, just the drivers side light will not retract.
going off to the panel beaters tomo for an estimate. its insured so not too many worries. needed the front bar fixed up a bit anyway as it was missing paint in a couple spots

Guess who is about to get reamed for insurance.

New front bar from toyota = $500.

Last time i checked there was 1 left in australia.

You DON'T want to have a front ender with an MA61 as you are going to have trouble finding any parts that are straight.

no-one is scavenging any bits off mine, unless the insurance co. want to write it off. and i doubt it cant be repaired for less than the 6.2k they will have to pay me if it is.

guess this delays the 1j conversion a little too.

You'd be surprised.

This was insured for 7k

http://oz-enet.com.au/~peewee/crash1.jpg

They wrote it off.

It needed bonnet, grille, lights, bumper, guards, radiator, fan, and general panel beating.

I fixed it with my dad in the garage for less than 2k.

If they write it off, buy it back off them.

I feel your pain. Similar thing happened to me and it turned out to be cheaper to buy a new Supra than try to repair my slightly damaged Supra. Sad

sorry to dredge up an old topic, but i got word back from the panel beaters. they quoted $4k to fix it, but also added that it would take a bit longer than the 2 weeks they estimated, to find parts and repair it (suprise suprise)

ill get it back in better cond than when i bought it so its not all bad.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/celicasupra/MA61/Accident/IMGP0097.JPG

I was going to buy the front bar/skin for my Supra from Toyota and it would have cost me AUD$1350 Shocked It just never happened...

So after spending heaps of hours on the net, searching for parts and gone without her for 5 months, she is back on the road (after a bank loan)... Just...

Cheers.

UPDATE time.

now i've been speakin to the insurance people and the panel beaters, they have been unsuccessful in their efforts to source parts, either new or second hand for the thing, and have given me two (2) options:

1) they write it off and pay me out, as it was insured for $6.2k, minus the excess and the rest of the life of the insurance policy, i stand to get $5k back.

2) i get the car back + the value of repairs quoted, which was $4k, minus the excess and the remainder of the policy i still owe, as it would be cancelled. so in essence, i will receive a cash payout of about $2.8k

the dilemma is, do i think that my beat up ma61 with a pos 5me, w58, and a beat up front end is worth $2.2k to me.

it isnt really, but it has 1k worth of koni shocks in it that i dont particularly want to give up to the insurance mob.

if i could find someone willing to swap their old original shit in there before i hand it over. unfortunately i didnt keep my original shocks cos they were totally fucked, i still have the springs tho, replaced them with king lows.

still, looks like there will be a cheap supra come up for auction in canberra soon.
