Is it like this one?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/GASSED250/carby/000_0029.jpg

PS Base plates arnt just base plates
the best one to use that has the most efect is the PLYWOOD spacers from BG (Barry Grant)

And if you want a nice smooth entry to your holley for better throttle responce with out cutting the choke horn off use a K&N stub stack

no mines a little different, but a similar carby yes.

whats this k&n thing you speak of?

I doubt ill even fit your conventional china mans hat filter in there, i may have to make a weird snorkel down into a pod filter.

Good move on the vaccum secondariy bit, with a double pumper you would be able to see your fuel guage go down!

Is it made to run on premium??

It will easily provide enough, you could have gotten away with a 650.

Who rebuilt the carb? Ive seen alot of problems buying "rebuilt" holleys from people, the douche's mix up metering blocks, plates etc. from different models and youll never get them running any good. I have rebuilt a few DP's and VACS, there is a good book by Dave emmanuel (i think) that lists all the part numbers of the carbs.

What did the carb set you back as I have never bought a second hand
rebuilt carb

I always get newies and the last one (pic at top of page) was $580
and is a 670 street avenger it has quick change secondary springs
clear fuel bowl plugs and twin fuel entry

Hey Blake do you know how many CC's your combustion chambers are
And what the bore size is
and what your peak rpm will be?
I want to work out how much HP your engine will make...

it cost me like $270..cheap as chips. I guess the guy must buy them totally shagged and rebuilds them.

185cc combustion chamers
Bore size of 4.030"
peak rpm should be about 8500. BUT max power will be at around 7200
with a final compression ratio of 10.66:1

What are your throttle butterfly shaft bushes like, any play? That is the number 1 area carbs leak air in.

Also 7200 RPM sounds alot for 400hp from a 5 litre motor? Let alone reving it to 8500rpm. You must have some serious spring pressure, are they doubles or triples?

I wont be revving it to 8500 trust me, thats just a figure that is to tell me, thats the rpm before damage occurs. i doubt the tacho will hit 7200 often either. too dangerous around the streets!

They are good quality double springs - upgraded to handle over 700" of lift.

no play in carby.just checked Smile

You beat me too it!

Heaps easier than dealing with EFI, at least if you rebuild a holley at home and it doesnt work you can throw the carby out and get another on fairly cheaply!

EFI is fucked working on compared to carbs!

But then again it is more efficient, more powerful, and more better!

So there is always a tradeoff
