Isn't there a little white knob/handle thing that u use to adjust the damper rate? Surely you can buy a new one if need be.

Depends on whether you have externally adjustable shocks or internally adjustable ones.
The externally adjustable ones have an attachable knob that you use to adjust the dampening.

If there are yellows they should be adjustable on the shock shaft at the top in the car by a small tab {in the center of the shaft}, which you use a plastic Koni nut to adjust {or small spanner}. They could be reds with yellow valving , which means your compress the shock till the shaft clicks into the body then turn the shaft . Or depending on part numbers they could be the Yellow race shocks which have one adjustment dampening / compression adjustment by the top dial , and rebound by the rotation of the shaft . These where not sold in Australia , but they might be those if the shocks where imported . + adjustment is clockwise - anticlockwise .

thanks guys.
well im assuming they are the 'Yellow' model because they are yellow in colour (is this correct? - or is there a difference between a yellow koni shock and an actual 'Yellow' model?)
i can see the shaft at the top of the shock inside the car, it looks as though some sort of nut key can adjust them. So all i do is wind them back and forth to get damper pressures? I'm thinking if a normal spanner can achieve this.
also - the front of my car has coil overs. Can i access the top of the shocks on the top of the struts? (under the rubber plug)?

I had yellow ones that were internally adjustable on my rally car, if that's what you've got then then disconnect the top of the shock from the car and remove the bump stop from inside the dust cover by pushing it down the shaft using a bit of wire or a screwdriver. Then fully compress the shock by hand, which meshes an internal valving adjuster and turn the dust cover (with shock still compressed) to change the damping. Don't forget to put the bump stop back in when you're done because if the shock "bottoms out" without it you'll wreck the internal adjuster.

Unfortunatley, not all yelows are internally adjustable. Yellows for xA6x celicas and supras, for example, are internally adjustable only.
What car are these on?

I have yellows on the front of my sprinter. There is a small bit on top kinda like the head of a flat head skrew driver, you need to use a tool that you put over it and push down and you can turn them.

as others have said, the koni yellows for a sprinter are only internally adjustable.
there is 2 1/4 turns of adjustment. screwed all the way in is hard & all the way out is soft.
Interesting fact is that the "adjustability" of the shocks was originally intended to compensate for age and wear - ie as they got older you adjusted them harder to compensate.
anybody have any koni yellow rears they want to sell? im on the prowl for a set...

Do you have 86 struts in ribbo? the koni yellows for 86's arent externally adjustable.
says so on their catalogue too.. the externally adjustable ones have a

The car feels sloppy and i think i'm due for a re-gas/adjustment.
Whats involved in this? do they take my whole coil-over setup off and remove the shock? The back ones would be fairly easy i imagine.

Getting shocks rebuilt involves removing from car, yes 
I'm sending my rear reds off to be done this week, They are getting yellow valves though... Cost about 150 and they come back as good as new...

Koni's are pretty good and last a long time - I'd try adjusting them first. If they are still sloppy after that take them to somewhere like fulcrum who has a (off car) shock dyno. They can dyno the shock and get the proper measurements from koni and tell if they are worn. If so they can be rebuilt. the 86 shocks dont use gas - they are oil filled only.

Try and find someone who can actually rebuild the shocks inhouse, that'll save you a bit of money in handling/transport. Generally if you want a really good job done for car setup avoid the bigger chains and go to a smaller more specialised suspension shop. I can recommend a couple in brissy but you're probably not from here
