1GGTE rebuild? Mon, 30 August 2004 11:27 Go to next message
How hard is it to get al the bits to rebuild a 1GGTE in Aus? Can you use the 1GFE bits from an IS200? I have a 1ggte that's on the wrong side of 200K k's, and it kinda "stopped" last time I drove it (over a year ago now). I was just going to buy a block from an import wrecker when I get my shell painted but I was thinking, if it's comparable to the cost of another engine, a rebuild may be a better option.

I'm not sure why it stopped back in the day, but I don't think it was anything major.

It would be nice to have a rebuilt engine to put in it but I'm not too fussed, are the motors still fairly cheap from a wrecker? (a year ago SSS automotive said 600 for an engine minus wiring)

Any way, any info or ideas anyone has is appreciated.

:edit:

Funny, almost this exact question exactly a year ago...

I'll ring around tomorrow and find out about engine availability myself, I guess I shouldn't be that lazy...

Thanks,
Tim.

I only really want standard, though if I rebuilt one I'd make it a little better. I mean, how could you not?? But as they still seem to be cheap and av ailable from the wreckers I don't think it'd be worth it. Once you look at getting good turbo's (or even *gasp* a rebuild) it's going to be quite expensive.

Thanks for the help anyway.

Tim.
