Better choice, TX3 or AE82

Guys i am after a daily driver that i can also go and have a fun track day once in a while, i am not interested in drifting, more just racing round a track as fast as possible in a small economical car.
Basing it mainly on cost and easiness to upgrade cheaply, which car would be better.

Advised for the person below,
Tx3 turbo, or twincam 86 kw or 100 kw corolla. A non enthusist car you would see stock standard in the car yards or trading post.

You could try a Suzuki Swift GTI. Small, economical, nippy, and can be modified quite well. You should be able to pick up a good one for $5000 or under.

the 4 round light K series TX3 or the last Square shape were by far the best lasers made ..
In all forms they are good cars for a budget price and plenty nippy
The AWD turbo models have a tendancy to break gearboxes - but wont unless your power crazy ( in that case get a GT4 or an EVO )
My brothers had a Tx3 for gods - 9 years now - treated it like shit - and the thing still runs * well * considering
over 300 thousand KM's and its still reliable.

i vote AE82- mine is highly modded and heaps of fun and is for sale for just over your price range.  check the for sale section.

Get a K Car diahatsu Avanzo TRXX 4WD 550 CC turbo booyeah!!!
You can get them for about $4000 from an importer!

If you could first find a KE Series TX3 that has not been flogged and if it was 4WD you would have a great car BUT...I only know of one and he will not sell...I know..  I have been asking for years..
