[AE86] A-spec Rear Brace
|
Mon, 09 August 2004 08:12
|
|
these are now for sale again, due to popular demand.
As seen in Simon's drift CAE86, and now a number of 86's around Adelaide.
$200 shipped.
good for a harness mount, as well as body stiffening, make a difference you can feel, even with a rollcage.
they come in unpainted aluminium, it's the top brace in this pic.

the back seat is rendered useless, but doesn't need to be taken out. just folded down.
it's easy as to fit, all you need is a bit of common sense, it mounts between the 2 brackets that the seats clip into at the top, so those brackets have to be removed. but that's about it.
depending on how twisted your car is, you may need to use spacers, or sit on the brace to get it to fit. Out of the 7 cars that have them, 3 have needed spacers, one fit perfectly, and 3 were tight, needing a bit of body weight to get between the mounting points.
if spacers are needed, i can send these out after.

alas i have one! its useful for getting kinky with girls in the back, gives somewhere to strap the handcuffs to. Other uses include tyre and rim holder/locator, holder upper. and if you carry a 12mm socket u can take it out quickly and use it as an anti road rage tool!

Put mine in the other day.
Coz ive got 10kg springs on the front, and a pretty soft rear (cant afford rear springs atm shuttup) i normally would get heaps of bodyflex in a corner, even more so when changing direction.
This bar has reduced that flex really well. Id get some pics but my camera doesnt have a flash..

If you can produce these in Stainless and for a reasonable price (talk to Simon), then ill take one.
Regs say i cant use Alloy, or Chromoly as a harness mount. Mixed cage thing.

(bump)
could you design these so the seat can still fold back?
i havent seen my car for a while but i remember thinking that this would be do-able when i was designing a similar thing.
i suppose even if the seat did clip back, it would either run into the harness mount points or you would have to get rid if them.

you actually could make it fit with the seats in, but where the bar is, you would have to take that out of the seat, and place some type of braket on the bar, and where the seat now has a ditch for hte bar, and then it would need to be very safe. all in all its a waste of time, basically its made for the track.

i could make one, not a problem, but it would be from mild/stainless steel, would weigh prolly 3 times as much, and would cost more, because i'd have to go back and redesign everything, so it all fits properly, and doesn't interfere with the seat at all...
could be painful.

to be honest, i'd have to check the rules on that one.
but hey, for average joe "street racer" it's fine. I've used this in my car at a cams event, as has simon, and they've said nothing so far...
on top of that, it's main purpose is for body stiffening, at which it does well.
nice pic, joyride....if indeed that is your REAL name...mwahahaahahaha

Most well looked after hachi dont require spacers, and the brace fits nice and tight like a virgin. Others like mine require some added width kinda like a loose whore.
