corolla questions?

Due to finances i might be forced to put the supra on hold for a while . In order to at least have some wheels i am now considering a 1985 manual corolla sedan. Firstly, does anybody know what model it would be, and secondly are there any major mechanical problems I should know about? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A 1985 Sedan would be an AE82... I'm pretty certain they all came with either a 2AC or a 4AC... Both Carburettor engines... No mechanical things come to mind except for that they are old and thing's stuff up when they are old and worn... Just give it a good check over and go from there...

yeh there are 2 versions, the ae80 or something came with a 2AC 1.3L and the ae82 was a 4AC 1.6L. There are a few good ones still going around.
One problem i reckon would be rust and just make sure you give the engine a good look see

my old 4ac ae82 when well for as long as i had it. the typical design fault is teh suspension, particularly the rear left hand side in my experience.
but an AE82 twinky is a much better car all around, and i think it is a much better buy for the extra couple hundred bucks they cost.

I'll think you'll find the ae71 was more in the early 80's. From when the ke70 was being removed from production to not long after the ae80/82 hit the line. About a 2-3 year production run.

as a general rule
ke55 78-81
KE70 81-84 (some ppl say they have 80 or 85's tho)
AE71? either started in 81, or near the chage in 84.
