Rocker covers - internal seal?

I'm swapping the rocker covers on my engine for another set that are in better condition. In the top of the exhaust side rocker cover there is this metal plate that kinda channels the blow-by to the PCV hose. When I pulled it apart to clean it (it filled with chunks of dirty congealed oil) I noticed that it was sealed with what was either a gasket or some kind of a solid sealant. Do I need to replace this before I can use the cover? If so, what do I use to re-seal it?
Cheers,
Andy

No that goop is just to help the gases take the long way out. In my cam cover on the 3S I removed all that steel channeling crap.

hmmm.. I might just bolt it back up then. There's no PCV valve on the gen 1, so I guess that plate thing acts as a buffer to reduce the pressure. I'll put it back on and see how it goes.
