7mgte, 1jzgte, 2jzgte, boosted up 1ggte and 1uzfe will fit and have all been done, but whats your definition of "something not to difficult"?

Also what transmission is in the vehicle? Get the trans code off the plate in the engine bay and post it here, this may also help the decision making. Oh yeah 2wd or 4wd?

1g-gte + bellhousing $950
Diesel Hilux Rad $400
2x thermo fans $120
21/2 exhaust $150
Modify Distributor to run pure lpg $180
Gas Research Carby and convertor 2nd hand
$400
Bosch bov $100 I think
Sundry bits and pieces $500 up

Throw away efi crap not needed for gas, swap sides for clutch slave cylinder, use existing chassis engine mounts modify engine mounts involved turning one upside down fabricate s haped plate to connect the two. Spend next 2 months trying to work out where to put the intercooler, then dream about!!!!! wait for it!!!!!
Throwing it all away and fit a 308 with turbo 700 using ready made Marks adapters.

no matter what engine u choose price will be round the same

whether u put 1g 1uz 1jz

they all need new mounts
rad mods
thermos
sump mods maybe
exhaust
bellhousing and clutch if you go manual

mine was auto in first place so i keot the auto from the 1uz

in the end it saved me 2000 bucks since i didnt have to buy bellhousing and manual gbox

and the crown gbox bolted straight into my ute

so my conversion was pretty cheap in the end

since i got good price on engine and wiring Smile

i think a few people have missed a very important point here, he has a 1994 Hilux - the 7M and 1G were out of production in 1994 and hence cannot be used in such a conversion, neither can the early versions of the 1UZ.

Talk to an engineer about what you can legally put in - most likely a 1jz or late 1UZ will be the better.

the year doesnt matter so much aslong as the engine came out in similar model cars in later years

my 1uz has 1992 stamped on the leads

my ute is a 1992

no one ever looked at that

the 1uz i can say came out of a 97 model car
or even later
thats all there worried bout

so if the 7m or 1gg came out in a later model car then it should be fine

But it didn't. As Witzl mentioned, production of those engines had ceased before 1994.

Thats interesting,What Year & model did you convert ?

I was thinking id just use the auto that come with a donor engine.
Are you using the term "bolted straight" loosly, or was it a match with the original.?

a popular and easy conversion (or so I am told) is the V6 commodore motor and auto trans behind it. Cheap easy and common.

try a v6 from a 4runner plenty o grunt bit thirsty though, drive one every day! or for something really different - a surf 3ltr turbo diesel with more boost(surf weighs 1800ish kgs, hilux 1200ish kgs)

if you go a 3 litre turbo from a surf, make extra sure that the crankshaft pulley bolt is extra tight, they have a habbit of working loose.

If you move to WA you can put any of these engines in... Doesnt matter if its older than the car however you wil need to convert it to LPG.

Re: hilux conversion Fri, 24 September 2004 06:18 Go to previous message
well mine is a 1992 hilux with 22r engine and 4 spd auto

the crown 1uz auto bolted straight in
the tailshaft was right length just needed correct spline to suit crown auto gbox
i bought a custom sump

all i had to make was engine mounts
i made them form cardboard then metal ones

i then moved battery to LHS

i modified std radiator to fit the pipes and also for more room for thermo

i then modded the fuel system for efi

then i wired it up

now all i need to do is get a late model hilux sway bar cause the original hits gbox

but like all conversions
whether u go v8 v6 straight 6
u will always need to do same things

wiring
accel cable
exhaust
rad hoses
all the little things u dont think of straight away

these things dont sound like much but in the end could cost u up or more than 1000 bucks
