HELP!!! 2TGEU not firing Tue, 28 September 2004 05:17 Go to next message
ok...i got 2tgeu engine with weber 45mm sidedraft carby
have been workin on gettg it running but when all timing marks are lined up it wont fire...however when the timing is telling me it is out by quite a bit it runs....

I know the principle is to set everything to start point or 'One'
and everything should be fine.

Could it be the wrong flywheel maybe.....unsure if engine has had conversions.

To get the answer I believe we need to know what you did to the motor ie. did you take it apart, removing timing chains.
this would then guide us to whether you have assembled it correctly.as far as tdc no.1 cyl, dizzy set up it should attempt to fire. must be more to it?

you need to turn the engine over manually till it is at top dead centre on cylinder 1.

then pull the dizzy cap off any note the rotor button position.
it needs to be lined up exactly where the lead to cylinder 1 would go.

if it doesnt, remove the dizzy and insert again so it lines up.
then all you need to do is tighten it, turn it over and adjust timing till correct.

Number 1 cylynder TDC.
Dizzy set to Number 1
checked cams all lined up on TDC on first cylinder

Timing is set properly.

Have removed dizzy to line it up on one

points are good. New leads and sparkies.

still cant get it to fire on proper timing marks.

pull out spark plug number one, keep the lead on and hold it against your engine/chassis.

turn the car over and see what your spark looks like.

if it looks weak, bypass your ballast resistor and check again.

did it seem better.

does it run with it bypassed ?

if it does its prolly rooted.

if not try a different coil and check spark strength.

Ok.....the problem has to be alot more obscure....
electricals are all good....
replaced condensor, new leads and plugs, everything lined up right.

Engine not running when timing marks are lined up though will run when marks are sayin its out....
fileing new timing marks on flywheel.
