Jab what?!!?!
20V head on 4agze (VALVE vs PISTONS) Fri, 08 October 2004 14:15 Go to next message
A zillion threads on this popular conversion, but when I always tried to find the answer to this one (probably obvious Q) no response or info was found.

Bolting the 20V head onto a gze........ is for strength purposes.

However 5 valves per cylinder now instead of 4.

*What about the "rebates" for the valves in the top of each piston?

Are custom pistons a must? Or how do most go about this little problem.

i think he want to place a 20v head on a gze bottom end for the sake of the stronger bottom end ( assuming for boost reasons ), but he is unsure if the vavles of the 20v head will clear the piston tops of the gze bottom end as there is only 4 vavles recessed into the tops of the gze pistons not 5....

my answer to the question is that there is not problem here, the reason there is cut outs in the pistons is so that if the timing belt is to break then the engine can freewheel without damaging anything, so if you are unluky enough to have the timing belt snap you may be in some trouble, this is the olny possilbe answer i can put toward your question, hope this helps, someone please correct me if im incorrect.

Justin

Series Witzl?
I thought it would breath a little better, of course the ITBs add definate performance, and cant say the cam covers aint nice on the eye.

So you'd personally go for maybe just standard 16V maybe with a sadapter plate for the ITBs?

i wouldnt bother with the ITB's.... think about what you could do with the money wasted setting those up - thats half way towards a GT-series turbocharger! Its an aftermarket ECU...etc

I can cant justify in my mind the use of a 20V head on a GZE for the $$ investment to gain ratio.

i am running a 20v motor turbo charged looking to get a gze (series 2) bottom end for it and the current setup is fantastic, im using a t25 off as s13 and standard compression with a microtech ltx8 and its making (on 7psi boost) 120kw's at the rear treads, thats with the quad throttles and standard 20v injectors! i must agree the 20v cover is much more apealling/ easy on the eye in comparison to the dated look of the 16 NA and supercharged covers!!! in the end its your car, do what you want, if you want something thats powerfull but still does the job and looks a standard 20v turbo'd with a good tune will take good care of you, run like a dream on and off boost no doubt will make a tiny bit less if not as much power as a 16v.

in my opinion, 20v over 16v. But like you couldnt tell already!!
