Pinging like a grain of sand Wed, 13 October 2004 08:30 Go to next message
My friends '87 Celica SX makes a pinging noise while driving like a bit of sand flying around or something. he had this problem and so installed new spark plugs and cables, it went away for a bit but now its back, and it happens in every gear, it only used to do it in about 3rd. any ideas? (he has tried High Octane fuel too)

Must follow manufacturers specs in order to get engine to run at base timing and base idle.
Once you know what the timing is at, then adjust if needed.
If not, have you disconnected your EGR valve?
