4A-GZE turbo - how have you set up your aircon+PS+alt in FWD? Thu, 14 October 2004 11:00 Go to next message
im curious how others have done the GZE conversion to turbo with regards to engine ancillaries....

When you remove the SC and associated tensioner, you have a belt that then only drives the waterpump from the crank.

The criteria i have is: need power steering and air con to remain...

...so...

I was thinking:
# using the 4age alternator - this then keeps the belt tight on the water pump
----> but then what about the GZE air con - its usually driven on the same belt as the alternator?
----> as well as this, the PS pump is driven off the air con compressor.
# Can i do the above by using a belt similar to what i have drawn in blue?

What has everyone else done?

Ok this is what i did with my setup

I kept all the P/s, A/c and Alternator in the same position at the front. Then to get the water pump to still work i went out and bought a smaller belt that just went from the Crank to the water pump (i remember the belt beeing alittle narrower then the original but it still workes fine), then i grinded off the tensioner that used to move verticaly and turned it around so its pushes horizontally and welded it in.

i have currently done 5000k's and its all being working fine

Hope this helps.

interesting Smile

i just found out that the 20V stuff should work too.

i might just be going for a complete set of 4age ancillaries.

Thats how ive done it Karl. Just used all 20V or 100kW stuff. Its nice to get the alt over the other side. buys you a bit more space for the turbo etc.

yes, there was lots of love glen Smile

more too when you left!

For those interested - here is the engine with 20V/16V PS pump, and aircon compressor. The tensior pulley is part of the mounting bracket for the aircon so that was pretty cool! The alternator is on the way, as most will know the GE alternator sits lowish on the intake side, almost same height as the water pump pulley.

FYI - the GZE aircon bolts up, but the pulley is too big, and doesnt line up on the GE bracket.

Wouldn't just swapping over to GE stuff be a better idea?
