4age big port advice wanted Fri, 15 October 2004 08:34 Go to next message
firstly before u say search i did cos im not a fat arse lazy bastard like some
but u have to remember that searching for info on this site about 4age bigports is like looking for one drop of water in the ocean
anyways more to the point

it is now about 1 and a half months till i get my licence back
and i think i want to buy a twinky
so my question is
how hard is it to get decent power out of a bigport 4age
using cams (reground or billet) , lightened flywheel, extractors, zorst, pof filter, some sort of aftermarket management, port&polish, and shaved head.
or would it be better just to go straight to a small port or 20v

also would about $4000-$5000 be enough to do the above mods as i will be doing everything i can myself apart from management, port&polish, shaved head.

i think the above combination would be good as it touches on most things to provide a complete package

4-5G...well you had better start with a full rebuild..rings barings, seals etc..and i would prolly suggest a hybrid..smallport bottom end + bigport head..advantages of this is..bigger/stronger crank and general internals, and the added novelty of oil squirters..then yeh.. deck the head a little, quad throttle bodies, on a street motor i wouldn't go over board with the cams cos it would suck driving to work and in traffic etc..Aftermarket ECU, a set of those famous extractors from Anthony. 2" mandrel zorst, i think you shoudl get away Just with 5g's..you will have a very tough motor though!

ohh..what do you class as Decent power? cos as a diff thread stated an NA motor you kinda need to improve on a range of things and they will work well together..depending on cams..i don't see this setup getting anywhere under 160hp (motor hp)

thanx dude uve given me some direction
160hp would be awsome cos im not a straight line guy.
im more of a guy who likes corners and the idea of about 160hp in a light little hatch with a fair bit of handling thrown in makes me drool. the fact is that would make it fairly potent around small tracks like wakefield so i can keep up with my friends cars (turbos)Very Happy
