1G-GZE Boost Gauge Plumb In Tue, 19 October 2004 07:03 Go to next message
Hi all.
I would like to know the best place to plumb in a t-piece to hook up a boost gauge for the 1G-GZE in my RA23.
There are a couple of small hoses across the front of the S/C but I am at a bit of a loss as to which one I should cut in to.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Anything downstream of the throttle butterfly.

The charcoal canister connection is a good one.

Does downstream of the throttle butterfly work, as the GZE has a bypass system in place that leaves the S/C out of the 'fun' when the engine is cold or the ECU detects an error ?

And thanks for your suggestions too.

Cheers,
Mitch.

I don't know about the 1ggze specifically, but the Boost guage reads manifold pressure.
Manifold pressure is the pressure downstream from the throttle body.
ie, in the plenum.

OK - I understand now, thanks, and regardless of the s/c being by-passed or not, it will read manifold pressure ie. boost, when it is being generated.
So I guess the closer to the plenum the better for a more accurate / responsive reading ?

Sounds about right.

There should already be at least 3 hoses in the plenum.
One for brake booster
One for power steer
One for charcoal canister.

Try tee-ing off the charcoal canister first, then try it off the powersteer vacuum line.
Try not to use the brake booster line.

"Downstream of the TB" does not necessarily work on a GZE... remember the blower itself is downstream of the TB! Smile But yeah, the plenum is the best place to put it since this will show you how much pressure is available to the cylinders, which after all is what you want to know.

I will stay away from the brake booster line.
The carcoal canister comes off a small elbow at the top of the plenum and I'm not using the PS at all, I have removed it and capped off the pipe that runs to it so I will see what I can rig up using that.
And thanks to you as well Norbie, it was the location of the S/C that was throwing me when it came to finding a good pick up point for this gauge.
Cheers,
Mitch.
