Welcome.Yes MX83 does use a seperate transmission controller but I dont think that it is capable of running independently. Its a can of worms you are about to open.Jim of Sideshow and Grant of sixworks {auto elecs] understand these things.
I would like to suggest that these electronic systems are a minefield for the novice. Many have tried and failed or are still trying.Best of luck! Cheers.Pete. Smile

Edit.If u wish to buy a part try "parts wanted"

EDIT-apologies-NO seperate trans controller-I have a nagging memory of a seperate trans ecu with a 7m loom I once had.Perhaps it was an MA70? Anyway, sorry for the misinformation.Pete.

I've yet to meet an MX83 with a separate transmission controller.

They have an ECU marked A/T for auto, and if you were to ever find a manual MX83 it would be marked M/T. In that respect, there are 'separate' (ie different) controllers for auto and manual transmission versions of the 7M motors.

However, the engine and auto transmission are both controlled by the same computer.

I've got to say that I am with BabyZ here.

I believe that the engine/auto is controlled by the 1 box.

Yes I also agree with BabyZ and YelloRolla. I have done a conversion on my MX83 and it has only ONE computer box.
