Its common roumer that the AE71 and AE86 share the same floor plan.
I was wondering if anyone has any knowlage about this?
Im looking to do a move out of a AE71 and into a AE86 at some point and want to know wether my tailshaft, exhaust, suspension etc is all going to move over and bolt up smoothly.
Curently have a CA18det in a ae71
Any relevent info would be appreciated.
Cheers

Not sure about dimensions, but the driveline will all bolt up fine. There may be a few different things with the lengths of hand brake cables and fuel lines and stuff. But no major differences.

I've had no trouble swapping things like struts, crossmembers, diff, springs, shocks, etc., etc. between them

TE71s, TE72's do share the same stuff underneath - the missing out on workable(!) steering is just bad luck; however a crossmember with a rack on it will bolt onto the rails.

meh... all i know is that sprinter seats bolt into a KE70/AE71.
You can also pretty easily fit RA6* or even zee uber MA61 seats, just have to swap the runners on the inside and give a little "love" to the front of the outside runner.

Mine, after 400,000km, had THREE cushions in there just to make up the height difference when I got it Digging into the seat when I removed it even revealed a half full pack of Horizon Mild 12. Smoke, anyone?

Sprinter seats are about one inch lower and about 20mm wider than AE-71 seats, the AE-71 seats also move further foward in proportion to their mounting points. I did the swap and the sprinter seats rub a little against the edge of the center console and I use them in the fully foward position but it still has plenty of adjustment for people this side of 5 foot tall.
Being one of the only people on this forum to own both an AE-71 and an AE-86 I am able to take some photos if people want to see the floor pans in comparasin. That way we will know for sure what the difference really is. If people want me to then I will do it.

Don't upset the Sprinter owners! It will break their hearts to know that they really just own a regular 'rolla with rounded panels & a liftback No, really, the sprinter must handle better!
Seriously though, on inspection side by side(without a tape measure to confirm), the AE71 sedan floorpan seems identical to the AE86, but the wagon/panelvan are definately different to these (as I found out), due to the leaf spring mounts

I know with wheel alignment specs, the AE86 has slightly different angles to the AE71. And the AE86 twincam is a bit different again. But remember caster is adjustable. Camber is not, so the differences must be in the bend of the strut. AE86 has more caster than AE71 I think, and the AE86 twincam has more negative camber.

jaa buddy, i have always said its a 4-door SPRINTAH!
If you want to REALLY have some fun with low seats, the RA65 seats sit about 2-3 inches lower than the AE71 seats, or maybe even more. All i know is it feels like a truck cos the steering wheel is so damn high compared to where you sit!!

This info is great. Next time I hit something I might just re-shell the Sprinter into a KE70. An easy way to save on parts.
