Good GT4 mechanic in Melbourne? Tue, 26 October 2004 12:04 Go to next message
Hey all, anyone in melb know of someone knowledgeable and reasonably priced who'd swap the timing belt on my GT4?
I don't have the time do do it myself at the moment, normally I have a crack at doing things myself but cbf this time, just want to get it replaced Smile

man why do you need a specialised GT4 mechanic to change a timing belt? its not rocket science. ive no doubt its the same as any other 3S engine, meaning if they can do it on a camry they can do it on your car. drive up to sydney and ill do it for ya for $100 Very Happy

The local toyota workshop , or any decent mechanic will be able to do this ..

doesnt need speciality service as its a straight forward job for a reputable mechanic ..

There are no " specific to GT4 " mechanics in melb that i know of , most of us seem to have favorites , but its a case of hunt around for a guy with half a clue sadly .

( its not like nissans or VL turbos where 3 million "workshops" work on them daily )

yeah, best way to find a good mechanic is through word of mouth, recommendations from others.

i just find it funny when people come into my work and hound you about whether or not youve worked on their type of car before. fair enough if people are protective of their car, but fundamentally they are all the same, and if we havent worked on one before we'll figure it out!

Nah nothing to do with being specialised to the car really, its just that your average local mechanic seems to (in my experience) see that it's a GT4, and automatically want to charge you double. Toyota included also.

If someone has done a bit of work on them before, and knows them a bit better, they are less likely in my opinion to charge out the arse to do a simple timing belt change. E.g. A local mechanic here wanted $620 to change it, with me supplying the part!

Edit: also guys, I just re-read my first post and didn't mention 'specialised' or 'specific to gt4'. The title of the post was really just to get gt4 owners in here and post if they knew of a good mechanic who'd worked on their cars. So Razz Wink
