I've heard of this been done on civics... using larger discs and calipers up front and putting the front brakes on the back, then making up a hydraulic handbrake system with some valve system or something.

Any brake upgrade will be useful IMHO!

The RA60 brakes I have sitting here are 258mm diameter.

I guess so, I just picked them up then. A new pair of DBA vented rotors, and a new pair of DBA slotted ones. Plus rebuilt calipers and new rubber lines and pads. $170. I love ebay.

More important than the diameter is the fact that RA6x brakes are ventilated. This makes a huge difference, and unless your AE86 is a full-on track racer you'll find the RA6x brakes with good quality pads will be more than sufficient.

No, but Mk2 Supras which shares basically the same fronts have rear discs.
