Lately my car's developed an annoying and loud rattle from underneath. I stuck my head under it last night and found that the tin shroud that's mounted on the rear of the gearbox housing and covers the front end of the prop shaft has come loose and is rattling against the prop shaft.
I'm assuming this is not a big deal, it doesn't seem to do a hell of a lot, but it is there for a reason, right? What should i do about it? How is it normally secured? I've tried jamming it back over the gearbox but it comes loose over the next decent bump, and i can't get under the car properly to ahve a better look at the moment because i don't have access to any ramps atm.
its just a dust cap. you could remove it by unbolting the tailshaft and pulling out the yoke
tilt the car forward when you do this so the oil doesnt come out
Yeah, thanks man, i just wanted confirmation that it's not there for some important reason i couldn't figure out. I'll see if i can reattach it to the box somehow.
