the climate up here is better for rust too
i wouldnt buy a car without first looking at it
especially a ma61, rust hides well in these POS's as i'm finding out

yeh the km's are a bit high, but then again it's only $4000. If you decide to go turbo, tassie would be better, coz you dont have as many hot days. hot days = power loss

Check the spare tyre well - that was the worst place on mine.

i paid slightly more than that for a 5ME with not much more than a rebuilt 5ME, a prismatic flake job and a loud exhaust.

Sorry to digress, but was it you who bought SupraBoys car?

is a pretty lairy paint job
at first i thought it was pretty loud+ricey but it's grown on me. The flakes are quite small so the effect is pretty subtle.

rust in ma61s is prolific - I wouldn't buy unless you or someone you knew, trusted, and knew these cars looked at it.
- hatch in the bottom left corner rusts all the time (as does all the hatch)
- spare tyre well usually holds a bit around the seals, but I've seen them where the whole thing has almost rusted out.
- bottom of the doors, underneath the seals.
- the ridges above the doors, and the edges around any glass (this usually isn't so bad, but worth checking)
that said, I love these cars to bits, and they're great!

i bought my ma61 from sydney- i had draven take a look at it for me. it had some rust areas- some were repaired when draven found them, some were repaired on sunday by myself... but my worst areas were spare tyre well and hatch- and even then my hatch is okay.
otherwise, the car you're looking is the same as mine is now- (but i have a different cd player, heavy duty clutch and ma71 steering wheel and less kms)
as for the 5me, in the aussie supras, cressidas and crowns of the early 80s, they were pumping out 103kw, about 135hp? its nothing very special... but then i went from an ra60 so the supra felt pretty quick
with that amound of kms though, i'd want a bit of a price reduction, and probably think about an engine swap too. mind you, im sure teh 5me will nevah die

Show us the wheel Evil!
TheChuckster, Look around the antenna hole for rust and also be weary of the rust that may hide under the front window seal. I did in mine and it was a costly exersice (Which is on my SA63). But from the look of the photo of SupraBoy's car a while ago it looks funky with the paint job
Cheers.

Well i did have an RA60 with all 67kw and that was pretty gutless!! i am pleased that the 5ME is 103kw rather than the shitty 91kw that i read
I kno the tired would be a little old but the bloke reckons it has never blown smoke and still doesn't. But the reason for $4000 is he is driving it from QLD to old Tas.
Also Satoshi i am leaving hte stock body kit on it cause it. looks tough as. That includes the wheels. sorry mate. I also have to try and pick some up for a mate who owns my old RA60

I have an extra set of wheels, but they are stuffed. All 5 of them! I searched for 3 years for them and when they came up I bought it
And no Satoshi, they aren't for sale as they are earmarked for my SA63

TRD there is a great guy that lives near me that will take out ur rust supercheap.
He does a good job .
I'm glad u found ur car i knew u were looking for one,
It will have rust in pretty much the same rust places as our(well my cars ur old one) cars.
I recon the rust shouldn't be a problem as the car will still go.
Just don't get busted sitting on the brake in this car
