Hi Guys n Gals.

I have just recieved an e-mail from Rod Curtpatrick of Mallala Motorsport Park. He has passed on some news of upcoming dates for drift at Mallala.

There will now be a practice day monthly, beginning this month!

Tuesday 16th November (evening)
Saturday 18th December (day)
Sunday 16th January (day)
Tuesday 15th February (evening)

"The plan is to run a practice session every month, but we want to wait and see which is the most popular option (mid-week night practice or weekend day practice) before we schedule the rest of the year."

Now for the part which most of you will be interested in...
COMPETITIONS!

They are planning to host 4 major drift events in 2005...

Saturday 28th & 29th January (Day) (Possible Full Lock partnership)
Saturday 12th March (Day/Night)
Sunday 3rd July (Day)
October TBA

"It (January event) will be a round of the Drift Nationals and will feature Japanese D1 demonstrations. "

for more info, pls email mallalamotorsport@bigpond.com

Should be a big year in 2005, with AIR and Pt Gawler also looking at introducing regular practise events.

See you on the sideways!

drift at mallala is 110kph speed limited,
so i assume your non-speed license is fine.

I thought it was mainly related to average speed? And as if that REVS RX-7 was going less than 110 down the straight at Mallala...

i was talking about the licencing limits, as in at what speeds an event is considered a 'speed' event (a motorkhana is only first gear-so its non-speed)

how could they put a speed limit on competition? isnt that limiting the entry angle?

To be honest, drifting is a fairly high speed motorsport, especially around some of the bigger circuits like Mallala. Thus I'd be getting ready to take some shaft from CAMS in regards to having to get some kind of level 3 license in order to compete in state level drift events - these babies don't come cheap but as the sport develops and gains stature it's going to be all about getting sponsorship, money and advertising etc.

Oh and Simon-AE86 - I dunno if you are interested but you might want to contact Mark Povey (of Povey Motors, can't remember addy or ph #) he runs a WRX in the local rally championship (SARC) - his goal was to do the whole SARC for 'free' so to speak and he just about got there, apparently, so he might have some advice/ideas for you.
