If a dog does all that then it is the fault of the owner not training it properly... Dogs are generally out to please their owners but they aren't smart enough to read between the lines. They need consistent clear guidance to work out what is acceptable behaviour and what isn't.
There are quite simple methods for training a dog to not dig up gardens, shit in the house and licking people. None of our dogs have done any of these things past the age of 2 months.
Having said all that, there are some little fuckers that are really tough to train and seem to always be doing the wrong thing... but almost always the problems are because they haven't been taught what to do in a clear and appropriate manner. Hitting a dog does nothing, yelling at a dog just confuses them.

Well i own a dog (a rather large German Shepard called Dylan) and i would not swap him for anything else in the world, but i prefer cats you have to earn a cats respect a dog just gives it to anyone, But aside from that one of the nice things about dogs is when you've had the worse day at work and nothings going right when you get home someones pleased to see you

I love both cats and dogs. they both have their merits and demerits.
We've got a pure bred Bengal who's close to 2yrs old now, she doesn't scratch, unless it's us wrestling with her.
She also plays fetch with her bouncy balls. Throw the ball up in the air, and she'll jump upto 4/5ft and do an acrobatic twist, smack the ball away, land, chase the ball and bring it back for more
That said, I love rats as well, as with dogs and cats, you get some with a bad temperament, but if they've been hand raised properly, you've got a very smart and totally devoted pet.

Oh how true it is. Three dogs, ones as dumb as brick, one if not tied up at night disappears for hour on end and the other one is smart, loves rats and mice but stubborn at times even refusing to move for a car
Four cats. Two are over 15 years, one of which stays around the house (he gives it to the dogs at times ) while his sister stays here for about a week and then goes back to her "other" home (she's got a "boyfriend" there thats about 10years her junior ). Then the other two, one stays in and around the shed (she doesn't like any where else) and the other one stays around the house.
