2004 Classic Adelaide Rally Wed, 17 November 2004 04:00 Go to next message
Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone here has plans to ever enter Classic adelaide rally?

I know if I decide not to go turbo (maybe an 18rgu instead of a 3sgte Nod ) I might one day enter - this years competition has two toyota's

1975 Toyota Celica
1969 Toyota Corolla KE15

I'm sure it's all fun Smile

*I'm just reading the rules and regulations now - sad life hey*

Classic Adelaide rally

what are the regs on car age??

if i did up the Sprinter like i want to i'd go in when it becomes eligable (if it becomes eligable)

then again, i could just drive the stages any other day of the year...

no entry fee either Very Happy

You can't really modify the cars that heavily...and for those who want to enter, best to take a serious look at the supp regs - you have to spend alot of money if you want to enter the competitive category, and the amount of modification you can do is somewhat limited.

Go ask at a CAMS office.

Yeah but there is a HUGE difference between cruising along the roads at a pace that you *think* is fast, compared to commiting 10/10ths or 9/10ths when the roads are closed off for competition.

Car age isn't everything, for example the latest Lotus Elises regularly feature and they are maybe a few years old. Depends what category you enter.

Competition:
· Historic, for vehicles built up to 1947;
· Classic, for vehicles built between 1948 and 1971;
· Late Classic, for vehicles built between 1972 and 1990.

Modifcations to competition cars is very limited.
For example, to run a 18R-G or 2T-G Celica, you would need a true aus delivered GT.
Not just a Celica built up to look like a GT.

From memory, entry for competition is ~$7000, and they wont take anyone... they do pick who enters the rally.

Anyway... ill be officaling again this year (my 5th), ill be on Flaxley on Friday, Macclesfield on Sat, and Picadilly on Sunday.
Come say hi if your around, look out for my car (avatar) Smile

Was there today at the prologue and will be at various stages spectating over the next 4 days.

I too plan on entering the classic, but it certainly isn't anything I plan in the near future as I realise how much it all costs.

How awesome is richards escort! actually how awesome were all of the escorts... That white/blue Mk2 popped its front wheel when it spun at the hairpin.. was so cool.

1975 Toyota Celica
1969 Toyota Corolla KE15

the bright yellow KE15 in there for the last few years has a fair few mods.. but is still the original motor, ie 1100cc K motor... it does have a TOSCO spec head and TOSCO pistons, and apparently has around 130-140hp... and sounds sweet Smile

i was meant to be competing in it this week , in a perana v8 capri ..

modifications are very strict on what can be done + what cars can enter ..

they have had a 74 ta22 in it running a stroiked 2tg, still carby , with hilux/pug brakes in the compeditive list , and there was meant to be an early corolla levin entered this year as well

Justso you know , the car will have to be in A1 presented form + be of a desired/rare sports heratige as far as i know. and yes as MWP said they are VERY VERY picky on what cars enter. Replicas can enter but must be of a condition to truely "replicate "the spirit of the original - half the escort guys for example run re-shelled RS escorts , as the cars can be bent up and rebirthed for the next event

PS: they wouldnt let me enter my 1990 gt4 as a fallback for the perana as it was deemed too modern for the event , and also turbo + awd , which at current they dont seem to approve , unless its on a porsche

PSS: have a BIG entry fee allowance saved up as well ( ie over 5 grand for the lesser categories ( we were in thoroughbred touring ) and higher for full compeditive)

We'll be back next year in the perana capri - our entrys already been rolled over + our backup mark 2 escort should be ready around then too incase things go pear shaped again

Oh and if anyone wants to know why im not running , it was because of an engine failure 1 week prior to the event ( and i have my entry sheets needed as proof if anyone doubts me ! )

Unfortunately from information sourced the TA22 celica is not running in this years rally. It did not make it to scrutineering. If you want to double check this go on www.silverstoneevents.com click onto classic adelaide then on the right hand side is the data sheets from the prologue with times, cars etc and also the line up for leg 1. TA22 is not listed. I also checked with the scruteneering guys and they said that an "ok to start" sticker had not been issued for that car therefore had not been scrutinized and had missed the deadline. It is a damm shame! Sad

Re: 2004 Classic Adelaide Rally Thu, 18 November 2004 00:48 Go to previous messageGo to next message
ive got photos of it from last year - sounded mean for a tg motor Wink

poor thing though - you could see it still had ta22 traits of understeer into tight corners - but im sure he was working on dialing it out

at one stage it was in the top 15 or so i think behind the higher rated porsches/escorts/peranas/racecars

its an aweesome event - so pissed i couldnt go this year but as they say "thats racing "

we'll be back next year with a sorted out car + more driving time under the belt - it ( the perana ) only got off the boat 6 months ago + spent half that time being repaired into working order again .. ONLY to have the damn engine go pop one week out Smile

and without major sponsors its hard to turn the car around again in such a short pweriod + have it run in

As far as I know the boyz were doing some major changes and modifications to the engine. The first time we went and saw the classic Adelaide was last year (lived out of state) and we were excited that a TA22 was competing. We have put alot of thought on entering a TA22 ourselves and we hope to make it in next year. My brother is the managing director of muscle car events and was invited to this years classic adelaide to observe the running of the event through silverstone. He may possibly be partially responsible for the event as of next year. It has been awesome to have my brother down here for this (he resides in Townsville) as he can obtain alot of (inside) information on entering a car and of course talking to "the right people" It's been noted that there are too many entrants this year and are thinking of putting a maximum number of cars for the event. That can be good and bad.

Hayley

not sure on that - the owner of the car bought it from a person in wa who imported 2 from south africa .
they were already landed here when it was purchased but our car isnt registered for complete road use yet - it had permits to run in the rally , but should be fully complied + registered as soon as its drivinhg again ..

there weree a few issues like seatbelts etc that had to be attended to but not sure about emissions etc ( shouldnt have to because its a pre 74 car )

oh PS - there were only about 500 made ,l of which only 300 or so originals remain - you have to really check into the cars numbers - to make sure they havent been rebirthed or mockups , like 2 in QLD that i know of for sale atm

Anyone know what happened to the Escort?

I was on the stage (Flaxley) after the one it crashed on.. didnt hear much about it, other than it caused big delays on our stage.
Also meant the cars after the competition guys ran our stage as transit Sad

I doubt it... i would have been up Maccelsfield way.

Well it was a good event as always.
The 3 days of work has killed me... as always Sad

Found some realllly nice roads driving to and from the stages though, i might have to organise a cruise some time Smile

Did anyone see the size of the brakes on the Carerra GT???? :8O
Friggin massive... i couldnt believe it when it pulled up at the stop point i was working on. Both the front and back discs were the same size too.

http://www.overclockers.com.au/~mwp/temp/classic/dscn3295.jpg

Didnt see much of the KE15, the only day i saw it on a stage was today (Sunday). Must have been having a few problems.

http://www.overclockers.com.au/~mwp/temp/classic/dscn3140.jpg

I had the purple Pirahna blow up in front of me on Saturday, gushed oil everywhere.
Sad to see it out... esp as its an original and not a replica like most of the others.
Must have been somthign serious as it didnt rejoin on Sunday.

http://www.overclockers.com.au/~mwp/temp/classic/capri_smoke.jpg

The winner...

http://www.overclockers.com.au/~mwp/temp/classic/dscn3270.jpg

I ended up taking 400 photos over the weekend... not bad considering officials are not meant to take any Wink

Yeah I was there, nice corner but wherever theres lots of spectators your going to get dickhead officals. I was on the downside of the corner and he was worried about a car climbing the embankment and going through the stone wall?

Some of the comments from some those bogans at the hairpin were classics, I even heard one of them said "choice" hah
