Most of the rust converter I use contain phosphoric acid which combines with rust to form iron phosphate which doesn't react.
You have to cut most of it out though, otherwise it'll find a way to come back, I usually only use it to treat where I've cut out to make sure none was left behind, or on light surface rust after I've sanded it back.

POR-15 - the only choice
dont bother using rust converters etc, they all suck at the end of the day.

I agree por 15 is fanastic stuff. Just do not get it on your hands. It does not come off ever. You have to wait for your skinn to wear off. If you do use a simple rust converter do not bother with anything else except for the K&H stuff in the cream/brown bottle. The other cheaper brands don't work. Mini's are old so im use to rust and have had some shockers recently.
