Hey guys !
Just wondering if this conversion can be done ? I figure I would be using a half cut from an SW20 MR2 but I was wondering what modifications I would have to go through to complete this conversion. Also which gearbox would I use ? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

i helped out on one about 3 years ago. it's not too dificult to do.
turbo box is basically the same unit as the s/c one - so only really the fornt engine mount to mod. need to remove the tvis part of hte inlet manifold though
my aw11 runs a n/a 3sge & s series gearbox. a tad more work.

i vaguely recall someone on the megasquirt forum doing this?
Was a UK car. the guy was doing nearly all of the work himself - including respray and mount fabrication.
he put the intercooler in the microboot to open up the engine bay - required some custom piping, thermo fan and extra ducting - but appeared to work.
i'll try to dredge up a link...

yup! - and i read he's now doing the V6 camry engine into another AW11
do all the 3S-GTE installs end up with the intercooler in the boot?

The only AW11 3S-GTE conversion I have seen with the intercooler in the boot are in the UK.
Others I've seen have had the intercooler in the standard AW11 SC position above the gearbox, the SW20 position in the side vent, down low in front of the gearbox with a duct.

Note the IC At the bottom rear of the car
Its also a Gen3 3SGTE, on a street tune (Andre (from www.speedtech.co.nz) tuned it from seat of pants because it didnt fit the on dyno) he managed a 13.24 on his first ever 1/4 mile.
Him and his dad built it in there garage, its one nasty car to say the least
Edit: If i remember rightly, one of the US MR2 forums has full size stensiles for the engine mounts, if your really keen.

how much is the handling of the AW11 affected with the added weight over the back wheels from the 3SGTE or the camry V6???
one would presume it would suffer somewhat. . . ???

Mine handles better now than it ever has.
I'm not too sure why this is. The engine isn't all that much heavier than the 4A, plu I moved the battery to the front, dumped the battery and have a water heat exchanger mounted up front so the weight ballance would be pretty close to the same or slightly better than standard.
It feels far more planted though and is less nervous. It also can oversteer far more controllably. I think these characteristics are due to the fact that it now has torque and can be driven faster than it was with the 4A with far less effort in terms of wringing the engines neck and rowing through the gears.
I wouldn't be surprised if the MZ is lighter than a 4A. They're a really light engine.

Weren't the US guys that did the V6 conversion want to make it TT or supercharged as well ?
I wonder what would be better, a AW11 + 3S-GTE or SW20 with a boosted 1MZ-FE ?

It all depends on how you define better. The AW11 is a far more involving and enjoyable driving experience that the SW20. It's a better handler and a lot lighter than the SW20. The SW20 was designed to be somewhat more "soft" in all of the chassis dynamics, no I'm not talking springs and shocks but the actual dynamic responses of the chassis.
Having said that I'd have no problem what so ever having a 1MZ powered SW20 for a cruiser. It would be a very relaxed yet still enjoyable way to cover large amounts of ground.
Ther is at least one supercharged 1MZ AW11 out there and the VZ powered AW11 is planned to be turbo. I know there are at least a few supercharged 1MZ powered SW20's as well.
