I have some questions.
1. Do all MX83's suffer the blown head gasket problem?
2. At what milage is it likely to be a problem?
3. What sort of symptoms do you get when it is happening?
4. What happens if you keep driving it not knowing it is blown?
5. Is it easy to see if it is blown? What do I look for?

1. All 7M engines are prone to BHG's, especially if they haven't been looked after all their life.
2. Mileage varies depending on a range of factors, but it can happen at 100k or earlier.
3. There are many symptoms depending where the gasket blew and how bad it is. Common ones include overheating, running rough, oil in the coolant (milky residue), coolant in the oil (comes out of the sump brown), bubbles in the coolant, steam out the exhaust, and pressurised cooling system (ie coolant forced out of overflow bottle when temp reads normal).
4. It gets worse and eventually the engine will suffer permanent damage. Exactly how long this will take depends on the severity of the problem.
5. See point 3.
