RA23 Diff Center - What else is compatible? Mon, 27 May 2002 05:14 Go to next message
My diff is noisy as, i cant find a RA23 being wrecked so i was wondering if any other model celica/corona/corolla has the same diff center as an RA23?

RA40 (4.1) and RA60 (3.9)

pay attention to trans axle codes on the cars ID plate as u may find different ratios around...

So RA40/60 diff center will go straight into ra23 diff housing?
What ratio would my ra23 be? Should i stick with the same ratio?

Re: RA23 Diff Center - What else is compatible? Mon, 27 May 2002 05:46 Go to previous messageGo to next message
yep it will go straight in

RA23/28/40/60 all have T series diffs
RA23/28/40 --> 4.1
RA60 --> 3.9

ratio may vary with auto transmission so check the axle code

what engine do u have in there?

your ratio should be 4.1 and trans axle code T292

if you have anything more powerful than an 18R-C and want the car to be nicer on the highways then grab a RA60 3.9 (T312)

if not just keep it 4.1

i put a 3.9 into mine (1G-GE) and the car felt and shifted much nicer but i didnt notice any difference in revs at 110km/h on the highway Confused

My RA23 ID plate says it has a T292 already. I thought that was what all the manual 23's had.

Any old 18RC corona, TA22, TA23, RA23, RA28, RA40, RA60, or T18 diff will fit. Just make sure it is the same ratio, 5speeds had a 4.1 center.

Yes, all T series diff centres are compatible.

Another common source of T series diffs is RT104 Coronas. Most of them have the same T292 unit as early Celica's. And like anything from a crappy old Corona, it's dirt-cheap from the wreckers! Smile

Johnson:
They have a few TA22 / RA23 / RA40 / RA60 celica cars being wrecked at Just Japanese, Grove Rd. Glenorchy. THat is a good place for toyota parts, but they are not cheap. Also Sunderland St. wreckers have a TA22 and RA60.

hey Phil, what ratio is that diff you got? If its 3.9 or 4.1 (pref 4.1) i'd be interested in it for the T18!

Cheers

Phil
