Where to find a Nissan 180SX Tue, 07 December 2004 15:26 Go to next message
Hey guys, got a mate looking to buy a Nissan 180SX, can someone please give me some forums, or actual car yards that would be selling these cars.(Car yards around Sydney)
Does anyone know if these were produced in Aus, or if they are all imports?

Thanks heaps for any help!

if your talking about car yards, they were all imports, and a good place to start would be along paramatta road, topline ( forgot the exact name ) on hume highway seem to have a couple.

My mate is trying to sell his 180sx at the moment. It has an RB20det and 5spd (both out of an r31 gts) installed and is running a ball bearing t3 turbo. The engine has arias aluminium forgies, balanced and shot peened rods, balanced crank and flywheel, exedy clutch. Enkei 17" rims. 3" exhaust (which is very light- I can pick the whole thing up with one hand)

Oh and he lives in castle hill... Rolling Eyes

AFIK, there were no non turbo 180sx's untill about 1995ish. They are the ones with the updated stuff like tail lights, interior, and body kit.

They came out with the black top sr20 and they were called 180sx Type S

Where as the earlier models all came in turbo in either the ca18det or the redtop sr20det.

I'm not too positive though.

Actually the red top SR20DET was available from 1991 onwards, and the blocktop SR20DET was available from 1994 onwards. Not 100% sure when the respective n/a versions were available, but I would presume at the same time. But you're right about the type-X - that was 1996 onwards. Had revised suspension, interior gadgets/trim, and a sexy bodykit with cool tail lights.

1991 huh? Okay, thought it was 92.

And 1994 for the blacktop?

Yeah the Type S came out at the same time as the Type X. Type S being crappy N/A version.

mechanically identical

body is different but front panels are interchangable ie. sileighty and onevia.

the 180sx is also slightly heavier due to more glass

They are both S13s. It's prittymuch the same as a Trueno and Levin. Just different body.

I've been looking for one for about 3-4months now, they're an absolute pain in the arse to find NEAT!, I've looked at about 6 or 7 now and spent about $500 (lost 200 on deposit) looking at them. I might have finally found one though, but the price has to be right.

Yes, Silvias and 180s have the same chassis outlay, just different body shapes, interiors are identical its all the same.
I think it was late "91 when sr20det's (redtop) were introduced in the 180SX (RPS13), the blacktop sr20det was introduced in "94 and the SR20DE (silvertop) came out in "96 (KRPS13 -roundlights).
The red & blacktop SR20DET don't have much different except for head designs and possibly some other stuff???

My advice if your short on money is to but a cheap Silvia (heaps around) with the CA18 or SR20DE with auto, and do an engine swap to either a SR20DET or RB20DET. Or even just do a manual conversion on an auto 180SX (their cheaper).

Stuff to look out for on the S13s is rusting strut towers, I've only seen 2 without it, if there is rust, your bound to find it on the whole car, also look out for shaft play on the turbo, alot of cars have been thrashed or the boost has been wound up beyond it's capabilities.
