Cold engine = Smooth Gears ::: Hot Engine = Rough Gears :( Wed, 15 December 2004 22:28 Go to next message

Hi, just noticed some other things with my car, when its cold engine, getting into gears was smooth and easy as pie.... but when the engine runs a bit hotter, it seems like hell trying to get from 2nd to 3rd... is this common? as i havent really been driving other manual cars.

From 1st - 2nd, theres a bit of friction and bumping, but still relatively easy to get to

From 2nd - 3rd, it seems to almost get stuck past the neutral point, just dosent like to go to 3rd without some bumps and force.

From 3rd - 4th, Same as 2nd to 3rd, only a bit easier, and the car will actually chuckle a bit.

From 4th - 5th, Just dosent like 5th again, at times its easy to get it in, but occasionally gets stuck past the neutral point again.

Any Ideas broz?

Usually it is the other way around... harder to get in gear when cold easier when hot.

Maybe your synchro's are really really stuffed.
Try changing gears at lower RPM's and see if that helps.
High RPM snap shifts are not good for your synchro's.

obviously heat is the factor. maybe the gearbox oil is so farked that it is too thin once hot? or the clutch doesnt engage properly once hot?
