http://img75.exs.cx/img75/9849/dsc000334hu.th.jpg

Hi,

Been browsing the site and having lately done a GZE.

I've done a dyno run to see how it goes.. and it goes great till about 5K RPM then all of a sudden a power tappers of (as shown on the dyno)

Current specs are -
(tyre - 42psi, Amb Temp 29deg, 4th gear (190kms)

Stock airbox + top mount
2.5" exhaust
175mm nevo
Apexi-SAFC

I know the timing retards alot.. but is toyotas ECU really that bad? I've also thought about the fuel pump.. but i've heard its simply just the GZE map Ecu's doing this.

one more thing to add.. I've noticed that at about 5k rpm. the tps starts falling even though the throttle is down.

What do you guys reckon?

it leans out to 14.5A/F

The problem could be related to the 175mm pulley while using the top mount.

what's the other axis on the graph? Air fuel ratio? I can't see much in that top quality picture Razz

That power dropoff looks pretty mean Confused

if that is air/fuel ratio.. then its leaning out quite terribly!!

that doesnt look very healthy for an AFR at high RPM.

maybe the ECU is retarding the timing suddenly at that rpm... seems bad to have power suddenly drop like that.. means torque is dropping away even faster... that it stabilises at a lower level at higher rpm, there must be a control problem.

did the S/C shut off?
is the ignition timing set correctly?
is there a vacuum/boost leak to the MAP sensor?

i dunno - this one is WEIRD!

i thought i had it bad with my power trough.....

Karl even tho your power curve is a wonky p00, your mixtures are good for a fair chunk of the rev range.

but perhaps other mechanical factors caused your wonky p00, how many diffs u been through now? Laughing

1. came factory busted from piccies
2. busted thanks to sticky tyres and WSID and 6000rpm dumps
3. dropped the centre pin thingy after 1000kms(see the thread with videos)
4. wore out thanks to massive amounts of metal chunks in the housing and driving to brisbane and back....

Then there was the bog warmer that it came with originally....

Hilux is on the way. I still have nothing on Mr Sheerman though.

yes that graph is p00. I am this week installing the p00 smoothing fan device - ready for dyno day *(most improved is my target)

No the s/c doesnt shut off
boost all the way 10.5

the s/c doesnt whine anymore but has a growl/rumble/vacuum noise.

Ignition timing was set close to 10-13deg
and i cant do the timing atm as i havent installed the new timing pointer..

What i noticed is the TPS thottle level decreases as it rises up the rpm. im flooring it 100% but will show 5%+ less and drops more.

BTW. i dont have an 02 Sensor connected on my car atm.. but im picking up an SW20 3SGE 4 wire one which i'll get put in.

maybe its sensing too much fuel that it retards?

its a shame.. potentialy looks like it could break the 100KW barreir easy with 2,000RPM to go

Ive read thats its due to the ECU.. and only happens on the MAP sensored ones?

There was a big post up about it on the Twincam website

Thats a tiny hit, around 4000rpm. Not this HUGE dip in the graph. Sounds like your SC might be dying. Especially if its making a growling rumbling sound.

The intake air temps might be getting too high for the ECU if you have a 175 nevo and stock cooler?

These two graphs are of stock MAP GZE's:
http://www.rollamods.com/dynoday/016.gif
http://www.rollamods.com/dynoday/019.gif

And this one is of my old MAP GZE with 164mm pulley and HKS topmount:

None of them have a power drop like yours.

Yeah, if that is the case then i would probably pin it on the cooler.

i dont care about the idle issues either

You can get a HKS top mount which Jason has. But they only come up occasionally. I think ARC make one too.
You could get a custom one made up to fit in there, but that might be a bit pricey.

Personally i have a fairly large front mount, which fits in there nicely. Its very tight with the aircon in there too, and i would have had to ditch the aircon fan and replace it with very high flow 120mm fans in the space that the aircon condenser woudlnt get any direct airflow. I had to get custom lines made up.

I ended up ditching aircon because i cant get the wiring spliced in right from the JDM climate control Sad.

saw the same problem on ym mates ae101 gze corolla.

Get a very good boost gauge, not some 50dollar piece of poo.
If your boost drops off and you hear a hissing noise its the belt slipping on the SC.

Try tightening your belt, worked for us Very Happy

I played with a 101 GZE in it's original car briefly the other day. When I drove it first, it wasn't happy, at about 5 grand it died completely. I cleaned the air filter, didn't do much, also I noticed the huge amount of knock sensor activity, I accused the owner of using Safeway (Woolies) regular unleaded - turns out I was dead right Very Happy Anyway, after a little while it got a lot happier again, and I haven't seen the car since.
