A/C from halfcut to hilux Fri, 24 December 2004 05:31 Go to next message
Hiyas, I am STILL doin my 1ggte hilux conversion and these last few days have been stinkin hot and I was wondering if the aircon system from the halfcut could be used in my hilux.

I know little about how a/c works, but, would it be easier to get the a/c pipes etc from a wrecked hilux and just use them, with the a/c compressor from the 1ggte? is that possible or will there be problems?

Any help appreciated, would love to have a/c in the old lux Smile

Cheers

the mechanical parts unde rthe bonnet are similar in operation

the pain in the ass is under the dash

the wiring
the a/c amplifier like an ecu for a/c

all that has to match

its easier just pay someone to fit an aftermarket kit to yr car will cost over 1500 but its not cheap

even when i hooked up my ac back into my hilux
it already had a/c just needed the new 1uz cpmpressor to be plumbed up
that cost me 500

3 hoses
new reciever dryer
new r134 gas

My Hilux was pretty easy, although it was a YN57, so a little newer than yours (although I think many parts are interchangable??).

I Just got the under-dash unit and the on/off dash switch for under $200 from a big 4WD wrecker (although my hilux is 2WD), which were a 1/2 hour job to fit. To fit the under-dash unit, you just remove a fill-in piece of ducting from under the glove-box. The amplifier comes with it.

The wiring may be a bit awkward, but it is really just a matter of getting your dash switch to tell the ECU that you want A/C.

The condensor can be an after-market job, as can the receiver/drier and hi/low cutout. Getting it plumbed and gassed should be your biggest expense (some of the fittings are exxy), but you should get out of the whole deal for under $1000, and it will be better integrated than an aftermarket kit.

Just my thoughts ... Cool
