I would honestly say, working the current engine is probably a waste of money

I would agree - the 1G-FE is not a good base for modification. Its a shame that most states in Aust don't allow older engines to be fitted as a 1G-GTE or GZE will be a better performance option. A 1JZ-GE (IS300) is a no-brainer and easy to get approved but I reckon a 1UZ would be much more fun and done a few times now around the world - Google away.

Either chuck a late model 1UZFE/3UZFE in it or turbocharge the 1GFE Smile Even a low boost intercooled version with the factory internals would make that lovely chassis get up and boogie, and both of these options wont screw with the balance built into it.

Yes the 3UZ fits, theres an autospeed article on it. As the 3UZ is the same block as the 1UZ so it should fit also.

APS do a drive in drive out turbo modification for $8500.
All ADR approved and everything, you just need to get an engineers certificate afterward.
Gives you 50% more power which will be plenty to make you happy.

I toyed with this idea before getting the Liberty. The main reason I didn't do it is because I already have a modified turbo car, didn't really want another one.

I thought you could, aslong as it met the emission standard on the car with the original engine in it? aswell as weight / power..

It has to satisfy the emissions of the original car.

As for 3UZFE, TTE in Europe, and TRDUsa with Mr Millen both made IS430's. Interestingly, the 3UZFE was 6kg lighter than the 1GFE Very Happy

a 2JZGE with vvt would be a straight bolt in and give you a lot more power, and wouldnt cost the earth or require ic and piping and would be easily engineerable. quite smart choice, then you have an IS300, and alot of nice N/A balls.

Yep, basically the IS300 also comes out with the 2JZGE. You can make your box to fit, but I would rather the w58 from the Supra. You should consider the 1UZFE, speak to Boothy on t he altezza forum, see how hard it was for him to do.

That's definately the case in NSW. That's why you can't just pop a 1G-GTE into an IS200. Sad
Don't know about the other states though.
