3.1 automatically adjusts the compression settings for you.

Click backup and choose where you want to dump the files.

I uncheck the "automatically create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS" box

Dump the files into a folder called VIDEO_TS.

Dont worry about any other tabs.

do you have nero on your machine?

Use nero to burn the folder VIDEO_TS onto a dvd if you so wish.

what do you use DVD decrypter for. you shouldnt need it for 'backing up' dvd's

Yep,

Open Nero and drag the VIDEO_TS folder straight to the DVD

the folder must be in capitals exactly as you see it above.

It will play on your dvd player too.

you can make DVD shrink automatically create a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder.

All the DVD files are dumped into the VIDEO_TS folder. When I do it, I manually create the VIDEO_TS folder.

either way you end up with the same result

Does that software actually compress the video? As most DVD's are duel layer and can hold up to around 9 gig.

Obviously 9 gig wont fit onto a regular DVD

DVDShrink is the best single click dvd backup software around.

Newer versions of dvd shrink can output straight to an image file, rather than video_ts/audio_ts folders, so you can burn that with just about any software, DVD Decrypter is good for that.

i've got the newer version, it's a free download from their site, get it cos it'll make it all a lot easier for you. get a copy of nero6 onto your computer as well and you can do 1 click backup and very very easy re-authoring. plus it seems to encode etc a lot quicker than other software i've tried.

i was tryin to wokr out what you were all talkin about earlier, cos i never used the older version, but with this one you don't have to root around the transport streams and crap

You should have got some burning software with your burner.

Try using that to perform the burn.

Sounds like Nero might benifit from a re-install too

What version of nero are you using?
As for DVDShrink it sucks if you try to copy the disk after you burn it 80% of the time it will fuck up, I use dvd decripter to get it of the disc then dvd2one to compress it to 4.7gig

LEs + computer = BAD!

latest copy of DVD Shrink works FUKINAWESOMELY, takes about 3 clicks to copy a DVD.

1. Open DVD Shrink
2. Instert original DVD
3. Click "Open Disc"
4. select original source disc
5. wait for it to work its magic
6. Select destination disc
7. Wait for more magic

YAY!

solution, dont buy cheap DVD blanks.

Buy, FORIS, they rock

available at, www.jaycar.com.au

FORTIS = XC4730, XC4731 and XC4736.

Currently i use the XC4736, cheapest 8x DVD blanks available, and DAMN GOOD quality.

i know this is a oldish topic but i did do a search.

Problem 1:
When i use nero. I get a copyright popup. DUH. But doing some very quick research it is something related to CCS encoding. I have installed dvd shrink.

Problem 2:
WHY THE FUCK DOES IT TAKE SO LONG?
I'm using a 16x pioneer drive. SO many processes. Am i doing something wrong?

Someone that can help me. can they do so? Coz i am so stumped.
Even if u gotta add me to msn. Please do so.

4age: Dvd shrink takes around an hour to do a full rip and compress.
Then with nero 15minutes to half an hour to burn. (at least on my system - anyway)

the longest part of the dvd 'rip' is the compression - compression will kill most computers in a matter of seconds. Unless you have a decent p4 or an amd64 (kind of makes me think of comodore 64) with poodles of ram...compression will always be one of the slowest things your computer will do.

figured it out.
But what happened to "on the fly" burning.

Insert source. Insert target.
No encoding or ripping e.t.c
just a direct clone/copy.

It works n all. But isn't there a faster way to do it?

the reason it cant copy it on the fly, is because you are modifing the contents of the dvd. if the original dvd will fit in the recording medium, you can do an on the fly disk to disk copy. if the source disk is quite large, it may have to re-encode it to be able to fit it on the destination disk.

Dvdshrink reads the contents of the drive when u "open" the disc.
I do not make any image or audio alterations n do a "backup" straight away. And it has to "encode" it.

What software can i use to copy a <4.7 gig dvd to a 4.7 gig disc ON THE FLY.

well there u can use either nero or alcohol. The good thing about dvdshrink is that it removes region coding and alike.
dvd decrypter is another great tool, but you still have the problem of not being able to copy on the fly.
if you just want a disk for disk copy, its just the same process as copying any old cd/dvd, providing your burning software doesnt prevent you to copy copyrighted media.

One of my friends uses 'dvdclone - by elby software' personally I hate it...

I'd rather use dvdshrink and nero any day of the week.

with dvdclone all you do is put dvd in put dvd-r(w) in and press the copy button.

It does 4.7gb dvd's and larger dvd's *seemingly* on the fly...

(just make sure you have at least 5gb free hdd space for 'temp' files)

bottom line is.
i think dvd shrink has to be used for any copy protection.
and
dvd clone in the other scenario.

I think it will be a while til anyone gets their shit together for a good burning program.
