ma61 gearstick bushes Sat, 15 January 2005 11:05 Go to next message
alright, give up the secret, how do I get this on?
after painstaking cleaning all the broken bits of bush that were wedged in the spring, I'm lost. I got the small clear on on (with a snap that made me think I'd broken it), but the large round black one does not look like it's meant to go on from the bottom - the metal ball on the gstick is too big. I've covered it in oil and given it a fair push, but apart from cracking noises coming from the glue holing the 2 layers of the bush together, I've had no luck.... help?

Well, I'm confused. One part (clearish white) goes on the very end of the shifter - sounds like you've done that - the other one (black/green) is the cup that the shifter ball sits in, and that goes in the gearbox

Lol!

I did grease them too - just plop it in the shifter hole - IIRC it has 4 little indentations aroun d the rim IIRC (or 2) to get past the shifter pivot pins*.

Interestingly, it didn't make a huge amount of difference in my car, and I expected it too - I suppose my original bushings weren't that bad... or it was supposed to be greased propely and I've already mashed it Rolling Eyes

yeah - mine has been totally without this bush (I think), and judging by the condition of the other gbox bush (the white one) the other will need replacing too. and for $<10, why take a chance?

I know the indentations you're talking about Smile

I just replaced both of them yesterday greg.

The hilux green/black bush is awesome because it actually make the spring compress more and the two dowels on the side of the extention have a better position in the shifter (compared to my previous bush.

It now means i have a self centering gearstick as well

Re: ma61 gearstick bushes Sun, 16 January 2005 09:59 Go to previous messageGo to next message
greg, is the spring now too tight, and preventing the stick from moving freely? on some boxes ive found i had to take the little balck ring off the bottom of the bush, and just install the green bit... the preload the extra hieght of this bush puts on the spring can sometimes be too much??

nath - probably about $25-$30 - but you need to send me your existing shift yoke to do it...

OR if someone can give me a spare yoke up front that i can keep, we can do it on an exchange basis, reducing the downtime
