if your in brisbane i can rebuild solexs, as i have a dealer rebuild kit, they cant be bought singly anymore......they are perfectly tuned also can take you for a drive in one of the ta22's

Man I had twin solex's on my old 18RG, they are a pain in the ass to keep tuned.
Having said that, they are not a bad carby, when in tune, my celica was great.
I think that their bad reputation came about due to them being a cheap copy of the webber side-drafts, which are the bee's knees as far as carbies go. Ferrari used them for years. When you compare solex's to the webbers, they fall a long way short.
I would have loved to put webbers on my 18RG, but spending $1500 getting them installed was hardly justified. I just had to do a little more maintenance on them.
Performance wise, if the solex's are properly set up, they should be equal to the webbers.
Either way it will go hard and sound awesome. I love the burble and crackle they make.

I've said it before but I'll say it again:
The best thing I ever did to my Celica was throw out the Solex's and install EFI. I'm never going back to carbies!
