setting up 4k

sorry if this was posted b4. I tried the search function but have had no luck.
I read somewhere that someone set up a 4k using Daihatsu pistons.
Can I get details on which engine the piston came from and what size they used.
Thanks in advance for any help.

hmm. you're clutching at straws...
afaik, it's not common knowledge, but i would like to know
try looking thru the ACL catalogue..
problem i see is that you really need a pistons with lower pin height to make it worth it. and for that you need longer rods...

That is what we are trying to figure out. We did that before in my 3k, we used Mitsu pistons and 4k rods but this time my bud used a 4k block and wanted to see if he can use 7k rods.
The motor was set up with 5k pistons and the block cracked, he was thinking of sleeving the bores so we wanted to try a different piston, just to be safe.
Thanks for the replies. Is there an online catalog for ACL?

yes there is.. well you haev to download it...
4K can only safely be bored maybe 2mm.. the 3K blocks can go 3 or even 4mm at a pinch (the old tosco pistons were 78/79mm).
5K block is a bored 4K anyway, so why bother with the 4K block?
what about 5K block with 4AG pistons?

Hehehe, I am on vac here in the Philippines. Surplus engines are too expensive now. We have to make do with what we have plus a 5k block kills our chances at the night races.
Yeah 79mm is where my buddy wants to stay. IIRC 5k pistons are 80.5mm
BTW what cams do you guys use for drag?

3K block, 4K crank (have to gring out things a bit), 79mm pistons, shorter rods (or same rods but lower pin height pistons).
the 4K blocks have thinner walls than 3K, so can't be bored out as much.
for drag? my cam seems to be really good between 6000 and 8000 atm.. it's a camtech 609, ie 275/284, 231/235@50thou, 435thou lift.
any more duration and you move power band too high.

i prefer to get cams made with a smaller base circle, so that with the increased lift, machined rocker towers, everything seems to line up nicely..
ummmm

I have Charade pistons in my 3K, for one reason or another that I won't go into at the moment. They are a bit of screwing around to make them fit. Not a bolt in job, and not immediately compatible to K rods of any type.
Cheers
