I purchased this car about 10yrs ago. I then did the 4AGE exchange and had it approved by the dept of transport. The engine is out of a jap front cut [the tin was used on another car, my car is fully original] and is complete with the original computer, ignition and engine loom. I have used the original EFI fuel pump.
The gearbox was modified by a guy that raced AE86s at Bathurst [it was a spare ;box, it has a very smooth and quick shift, I dont know what else he did to it]. To get the road worthy I had to reco the steering rack so I imported a quaife quick rack from NZ and had it installed in the reco box. It is 2.5 turns lock-to-lock, it is not power assisted so its a little stiff while parking, but its worth it! Once the car gets moving the steering is very precise and makes the car MUCH nicer to drive. [my other car is an MY02 wrx and the 86 is as nice to steer as the wrx].
The car is in very good condition, it has been driven by my wife for the last 7-8years as Ive been an at home dad with the kids driving the family wagon. The 86 has been in the shed since I got the wrx.
This car is quick and handles very well; it is straight, has always been garaged and has no rust. It has not been thrashed.

Your probably not interested, but I am looking for a cheap sprinter minus the engine and possibly wheels etc. pretty much just a shell.
If your interested in taking your engine out and wheels etc. and selling cheapper then let me know.I'm in brissy too.

If the engine is out of a JDM sprinter front cut then it is rated as 96kw, but that is on Jap spec fuel. They drop a bit when running on Aus fuel but you are correct. 96Kw is the JDM Ae86 motor.
PS Very nice car. Wish I hadn't started my Escort project now. I would have had this in a snap.

another extra i forgot to mention.
the car came with a tow bar. i took it off when i got it, but its there if you need it..... handy for a light trailer to carry those spare wheels and tyres.
