XVid codecs : Any media buffs here? Sun, 30 January 2005 07:58 Go to next message
I currently have an VXid file I'm having trouble playing correctly. I'm using codec V1.0.3 and when opening the file WMPlayer attempts to connect to the internet and find an "Appropriate decompressor" or something like that.

After failing to find anything, the file will eventually start playing however with NO sound. This is really giving me the shits because I haven't found anything newer than v1.0.3 (maybe I just haven't looked hard enough, but I think I have!).

Has anyone out there hit a similar problem before, and what was the fix?

I use this pack: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Pack_All _in_1.htm
Just make sure you uninstall any other codec packs as you are probably having conflicts.

Not a problem with the xvid codec then your missing the codec for the sound. Id probably take a guess and say its got ac3 sound (dd encoded) and so try installing AC3 Filter.

http://optusnet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ac3 filter/ac3filter_0_70b.exe

If that fails look for a utility called GSpot, itll tell you what you need.

Careful. The all in one's can sometimes do a lot of damage. I suggest downloading stuff one at a time. If it works, keep it. Otherwise uninstall it. I've got some stuff that's good for anime if you need it.
