W58 - serial numbers or identifiers

I have been doing a search through the forums on W58's.
It is apparent that there are 4 different shifter positions.
"There are 4 stick posi the most common is staight up then 35 mm then 55mm back but there is also a rare 1 that is 25 mm fwd to the straight up posi".
And also the issue of the great later being the strongest.
And if it was a tranny released with a non-turbo or a turbo engine (I am guesisng there would be strength differences).
Are there any unique serial numbers or identifiers that can be used.... well to identify the variant of W58. Quite helpful when trying to find out what box someones is selling...
Another newbie Q, What is a R154 from?

If you're looking at an early W58, the easiest way to tell if it was actually a W58 would be the steel sandwich plate, but this isn't always the case.
The simplest way to tell a Mk4 W58 would be the f'ed up shifter extending off the back of the box.

Oh, and R154 was behind all manual 7MGTE's and 1JZGTE's (MA70, JZA70, JZX81, JZZ30 etc etc)
