Yes Garth, they DO specialise in EMS, plus they have been the only people i have seen consistantly able to nicely tune Quad throttle setups at a reasonable cost, and the jobs ive seen them do have all been spot on.Plus they are members of initial Drift, as am I and they always look after members.... Besides, there simply is not anybody on the gold coast or in brisbane with whom i would trust the tune, simple..... and the fact that next weekend is wakefield, so the car was gonna be down that way anyways..........
and the money came from the sale of my beloved( if well and truely abused and broken) SW20 turbo. (read trust cooler, GT3040 high mount, Blitz computer, crazy interior)

nah will be in adelaide for the nats round four that weekend, but it should be fun all the same. yeh the mr was a more comfortable and faster by far, but the hachi is a way better car for drift/jigh speed mountains, can be quicker anywhere than i ever could in the mr2...

yeh runs fine, just as soon as the oil gets to running temp, oil leaks from multiple spots on sump, so its not gonna be running for the next 2 comps i was planning on, and therefore 6 months of hard slog worth nothing, as the next comps im gonna run are in april, may as well have just taken my time with it.....

Hi,
Your car is looking sweet, keep the pictures coming.
From outside and a few interior pics too.
Are you happy with the fit and finish of the streeter kit and does he now sell fiberglass versions of your guards?
Thanks.

I can't wait to race you when our engine's are finished Garth. Yours with all that fandangled JDM stuff, and mine with mostly local/US parts.

P.S. Who cares if you don't know anything about parts that aren't 'JDM'??? Are you building the engine??? If you have a good engine builder, you won't have to know shit.

it will be interesting 16v vs 20v
both with 304 cams with 9mm lift?
both with uprated valvetrain to suit lift
both with no VVTi
both with forged pistons
both with 0.8mm headgasket
both with 101 throttles to air
both with afternmarket ECU (im going for EMS after josh's reccomendation)
both with head porting jobs and valveseating jobs (im assuming)
will be interesting for sure
and i like to know the parts compatibility with eachother, not just rely on paying someont to know. like josh has done and (unfortunatly) gotten burnt.

Yeah, pretty much the same set-up, except I'll be running Autronic or Motec..... Was going to go EMS, but have changed my mind after research.
The guy who is building mine builds a lot of clubman engines, a few of which have more power than the stroker 4AGE's that a lot of the dudes are building now...... His 4 year old engines are still making just as much power as they were when first built. One of his 20v's is making around 160rwhp. It's not a really extreme engine and is using only a mild exhaust cam.
I probably won't go as far as 304 cams as they are not really needed for the power I'm chasing (185-190rwhp). Redline will not increase past 8,500 either. I'll still be using VVT.

why not the EMS? not enough tuning resolution?
motec setups can only be has with 2000+ worth of equipment, far too expensive for a road car...
autronic seem to be the next best bet, but their gear is almost as exxy
EMS seems to be working well for a few ppl, that or a 4A-GE power fc (in my dreams)
i havent decided on a builder yet, maybe ill check this guy out?
does he deal in 16v? i would imagine so.
you getting mismatched cams with vvt? gunna be a cunt to tune.
and 190rwhp is optimistic at that redline mang.

you do realise that 160 rwhp is far above the output of a formula atlantic motor, that runs around 220 FLYWHEEL horsepower. 185-195 rwhp would definately require some type of forced induction, dunno whos figures youve been looking at dude, but they are way out....

Because I'm spending a lot of money on this engine, and I wouldn't feel right running it on anything but the best I could get.

Yep, he mainly does 4AGE (16 or 20V) race engines.

Nope, prolly 288deg cams with VVT
Quote: | and 190rwhp is optimistic at that redline mang.

Not really.
Anyway, that's the last you'll hear about my engine until it's finished...... It will make in the vicinity of 185-190rwhp - mark my words
So getting back on topic - what's the go with your guards Josh? Did Ken make a mould of them or what?

I haven't been looking at any figures man.... I've been talking to very reputable engine builders - The same people who are building my engine..... Trust me, these ppl would not bullshit about power figures.
As I said - I'm not discussing the engine anymore. I'll post up the dyno sheet after it's first power runs.
Bear in mind this is not a cheap backyard build guys. It's costing me a LOT of money for the power figures I want. And before you say "Just whack on a turbo" that's not what I want. Everyone has a turbo these days.

not disputing the right way to guild it, but plain and simple man, 190-rwhp is just not achievable in na trim man unless you plan to pull it down and rebuild it every 500km's or so, its just not a real figure, flywhell yes, rw, no

Fair enough man.
I guess these guys building it better put their skills where their mouth is then!
It makes around 127rwhp at the moment. They've gotta take my money and turn it into 60rwhp/75flyweheel.

finally some good news! all the minor leaks and fu..ups the engine builder made have been sorted , and the car goes on the dyno for its tune this afternoon. a HUGE thanks to colin at ricol for his patience in sorting out a multitude of hassles that were caused by someone else, and fingers crossed for some figures by the end of the day... maybe even a short vid clip if we are lucky.

ae86slut, one of my mates had jus 20v rebuilt with 304 degree cams, the usual stuff inside, and was running his old microtech and just managed 120kw @ wheels NA, then with a motec maybe push a bit more since that ecu was restricting the engines true potential, as they had to set the rev limit on 6000rpm before due to ecu and the fuel, with the motec they are able to push it to probably 9-10,000rpm to truly unleash the engines power.

ok the good and bad news..... car runs like an animal. power is like i said, on shootout mode it got 125hp at the tyres, so around 155 hp at the fly i guess, but the thing is the torque, it just defys logic. when the motor was setup, the guy building it told me i would not get auge hp figure as it is, but have oodles of torque. guess what? he was spot on. its maniac. spins up thirds without a thought, and the cat omg the car is awsome. gonna take a few weeks to get used to it i guess. had my first drive in anger. on the roads around the back of the gold coast where we normally run, i was unable to use third gear as i used to, as it just started sliding at will abouve 6000rpm, quite offputting at ...well fast speed on mountain roads. will have to learn my car again for sure. now the bad news.............
when i was at my tyre shop this afternoon, had an alignment done on the car, and took it round the blosck to test it out, and lo and behold, i forgot to pin down the bonnet....... guess what happened next......... yep nice schmick vented bonnet all over the screen and roof.... it doesnt look quite as good now still the car is for sure an animal, and will definately be worth the effort once i have the guts to use all of its craziness. will get some pics of the stupid damage in the daylight tomorrow....

the cars been out having shake down runs thru the week, and am happy to say the more i drive it the better it gets, hehe last night managed to out accelerate an sr20 turbo 180 up hills through the gold coast hinterland, so it has plenty o poke ( although the fact that during the week i took it to the weighbridge and discovered that the car with half a tank of fuel weighs in at an anorexic 880kg may have a bit to do with performance as well), and the potential is showing itself more and more, each time i drive it i get more used to it and able to use the car more like it should!
today is prep work for the driftzone day at QR tomorrow, for its firt "public" appearance, so heres hoping all goes well!
hopefully will get some more pics of the car on the track, and even some video footage if i can host it.....

meh, its a drift car man, the bent one still looks the goods, and CBF makin another one at the moment, so it stauys cracked and bent.... hahahahaha
do have another standard , straight bonnet in the shed, but dont have another vent as yet, so it will have to wait for the time being, may even just paint up the standard bonnet, as with the vent, the cooling on the car is so good, that even when drifting, water temp just reaches 80 degrees, so it may as well be normal!
will take some picsof the smaller little things that have gone into the car today, as well as the bent bonnet, and post em tonight i guess
