the jaycar HEI kit, any advice/comments on it,
they can be used with points, double points
and reluctor systems... (what is reluctor?)
i have a 2tg hybrid with elec dizzy and i want to

i believe you should ask Toobs and Witzl as they have used them... well im sure Toobs has... also search for jaycar HEI, in the last 6 months this has been covered at least 3-4 times

Heres a neat doco that describes the ignition setups on later model Toyota EFI cars... it will answer most of your questions.
http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h23.pdf
e.g. Reluctor type ignition has a magnetic pickup to determine timing.

so how do these other kits compare?
delta max http://www.delta-digital.com.au/
and
megajolt http://picasso.org/mjlj/index.jsp
so how does this kit work exactly.... so it
replaces some dizzy functions with its own
or uses them as signals and provides a bigger/
stronger and longer spark?
is it worth using it if i have an elec dizzy
already, will it make much difference?

the two kits mentioned above will also do spark timing (and the MegaJoltLightJunior can also driving things like shift light, fan switch, rev limiter etc).
am not sure about delta max, but the MJLJ (which i have a programmed ECU and board for) are fully programmable (and upgradable if you want to hack the code). It gives you a timing table based on MAP and RPM so it will do boost retard.
The MJLJ also requires you to locate an EDIS unit and fit a 36-1 tooth wheel to your crank (and a VR sensor to suit the EDIs unit) - the ford-based EDIS unit will also have to be imported from the US or Europe as no Fords here used an external EDIS unit.
EDIS givs you distributor-less ignitionas it runs a waste-spark coil pack directly.
These two would be a big step up in control and configurability compared to the HEI unit (which relies on your dizzi for mechanical and vacuum advance).

i believe Gareth has a Deltamax atm, but has not had much luck with it... it looked good, but it is way behind MJL, Megaspark or MSNSe.
2TG? probably, most toyota dizzys use VR pickups (as opposed to hall effect or optical)
the HEI are great. they are probably not so good for VR tho, as there are issues with the VR input.
but HEI with poitns is awesome. not sure about Hall input, but i will be trying that soon.
there are circuits around for a zero crossing detector, which is far superior to usual "reluctor adaptors" but i'm not sure if it is for public release as yet.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a reluctor type ignition?

Reluctor type ignition has a magnetic pickup to measure your base timing... similar to a crank angle sensor / cam angle sensor but it is inside your dizzy.

My 4age runs the jaycar high energy ignition plus the programmable ignition. They work well and save you money.
No complaints so far
