NEEDED RA23!

Ok I've been screwed over by 100ml of engine capacity meaning I can't put a 1JZ into a TA23. So now I'm after a RA23 thats in fairly good condition, even if it's stripped of parts, all I want is a rolling shell.
So if you like I have a TA23 stripped rolling shell.
it is a great project car, just too light for my plans we can do a swap.
I'm in Brisbane so if anyone can help me out.
thanks Benny

yeah I tried that, but the man I was speaking to is THE MAN.
John Kean sat down with the department of Transport about 4 years ago and rewrote the whole legalities of modifing cars, and now thanks to him we can put V8's in torana's, FJ20's in datsun 1600 ect. And there is also the Bible, it's a book that he uses and so does department of transport that lists the manufacture's specified weight of the vehicle that have ever been sold in Australia, and who ever wrote the book did their homework and listed the heavier weight of each model.
There is actualy about 100kg difference between a TA23 and an RA23, meaning your only allowed a 2.4L forced inducted engine in a TA23 and a 2.6L forced inducted in a RA23.
So anyone got a RA23 for me? preferably in Brisbane

you mean TA23
I can get some for you soon, I've got all the parts in boxes, it's not much to look at but it has potental. I'm thinking about keeping the crossmember, so that will pretty much make the car useless. and if you really want I can put a motor and box in it and make it drivable, not road registible but drivable.

Hey there buddy, I know this is not the tech section. But the TA23 and RA23 ARE the same body.
The difference in weight, is: 2T engine versus 18RC,
: T50 alloy box versus W50 steelcase.
The engine Xmember is different to accomodate T or R engine.
The gearbox X member is also different to accommodate either T or W box.
The brake master cylinder is smaller on TA than RA, but you are not using that anyway!
Front brakes on TA are smaller than RA, again not using them.
Go back to your engineer, and ask him the bare weight of the TA23 Modded up shell ready to take the 1JZGTE, ( with upgraded brakes etc) and the bare weight of the RA23 shell Modded up to take the 1JZGTE.I can guarantee you that they will be exactly the same.

Hey chuck you are exactly correct, they are the SAME BODY.
but if they where the same then there wouldn't be two diffent models, the fact of the matter is that there are different regested weights for both cars the TA23 being lighter and the RA23 being slightly heavier, and this is what the Department of Transport looks at, they don't care if they are the same and the only difference is engine is box, it's what is on the paper in front of them that matters.
So still no-one has an RA23 for me?

you said that all that matters is what's on the paper in front of them, well maybe you should put papers in front of them that show these cars are identical. Show them that a TA23 converted to a 1JZ would weigh the same as an RA23 witha 1JZ conversion. Use all official toyota figures. Then I can't see any basis they could have to refuse this conversion.

You've never had to deal with Qld Transport before have you?
Hint: logic and common sense is IRRELEVANT.
