Doobs, try a panel beater-you'll probably want it powder coated, but they're pretty expensive i think.
Curious guys, what do you think a rear strut brace would be like?Make much difference? IM thinking about making one up at work, just a 2-point strut to strut one. Im thinking might give a bit more rigidity through the bendys.
I'll draw up some plans and start on it next week.I'll keep you all posted

Rob man that bites balls! and of all places why the rear quarter!!!
Rasby the extractors you have are a gen 2 3s-ge stock item from Toyota. you seem to be missing the lower '2-1' section though, another thing to note is that they do foul on the standard thermo fan, or at least they do when bolted to a gen 2 engine!

I'm interested in doing the GT4 brake conversion when I install the coilover suspension - does anyone know of any online references with details?
Are calipers across the GT4 family compatible? (165, 185, 205) 185's seem the easiest to come by, so I was hoping to go with those, but if the 205's are better, I might invest in those. What parts are needed for the conversion?
If I went the ST205 route, the ST205 has rear ventilated disk brakes - has anyone fitted these to an ST162? Any one have any knowledge on the subject?
EDIT: I saw one guide online, fitting an ST205 brake setup to an MR2 AW11.
From the way it seemed, you need 16"+ rims to fit the ST205 disks. Even if I bought something fairly cheap (ZZT231 Celica 16"'s? I've seen them go for $600), with the cost of the four calipers, disks etc ($600?) its not cheap.
To put it into perspective, I've spent $1600 on suspension so far (more to come), so ~$1200 to do the brakes isn't totally unreasonable...

man i know what ya mean i got that area of mine like that and still sort of is hit there but i was in school (yr12 at the time) and got the nice surprise at 3pm when i went up to car to go home there it was...lets just say the teacher didn't like what i did with the power of the 3s-ge and fwd and the hand break....and that if the local cooper were there i'd still be without a lience....lol...
also while typing this i notised that a 4th gen celica (red) in melb was used a part of murder...a cut up bodie was placed into the boot (so thats how u fit a person in there...never thorught of that...) and yeah left it at the cop station...then stole a shity early 90's falcon...man he was getting off int eh celica!

Buck_naked, easyest/cheapest way to upgrade your brakes is use the ST185 calipers(the ST165 use the same calipers), and use the ST162 disks. You only need to replace the front calipers to increase your braking power. With some good pads, you won't need to upgrade your brakes too much more.
The ST185 calipers bolt up to the hubs with the only modifacation required is the dust cover needs to be trimmed up so that the new calipers will fit. The bolt holes are the same.
You have to remember that the GT4's were heavier and more powerful than the standerd celica and thus needed the increased braking power. I don't think that anyone that has an ST162 would need the ST205 or better brakes. I have the 3SGTE and haven't needed more braking power, i need more grip for the increased braking power to be effective.

Oh boy am I a happy chappy......
I have never really been happy with my grill, it has quite a few cracks in it and it never lined up properly on my car either. I know it was in a minor front end accident before I owned it, so it's probably an after effect from that. Having NEVER had any luck at the wreckers, I decided to see if I could get mine fixed up a bit with some plastic welding.
Well today I went down to a plastic repair business that I chose out of the yellow pages simply because they said they repair grills, bumpers, etc. When I showed it to the guy he recognised it as a Celica grill and proceeded to show me one he had sitting there that was in excellent condition! Did I still want to repair my old one or buy this one? SOLD!
He told me that whenever a panel beaters or something goes out of business, he buys up all the spare parts they have sitting around, and has been hoarding like this for quite a while now. So while I headed out during my lunch break today to enquire about fixing my old grille, I quite unexpectedly came back with a new one!
Old one is at the top, new one underneath. You can see how the old one had a big crack in it (circled) and most of the vertical fins were broken or missing. New one is perfect!
So Karl, I'm sorry but I won't be needing to buy your update grill mate. Thanks for the offer anyways.

I'm fitting mine in the lip spoiler below the tow hooks area - check my post on page 26 to see where exactly.
But yeah a GT4 bar would be the easiest solution!

hey ,
just a few questions, a few weeks ago i put some kyb struts, king standrad height springs and new bump stops and new tyres on the front end of my car, now when i am driving the car feels every bump, it is stiff as and will jolt/pull the steering wheel out of my hands sometimes it is that bad, also the steering gets stuck on turnwhen its on full lock its really hard to explain the feeling, but yeah mainly the jolting of the steering cos it never done it b4 when i had my dodgy saggy suspention
and susgestion would be appriciated
one other thing is it just mine or does anyone else have alot of annoying rattles in the dash namely around the steering wheel, will do it at idle, general driving and with the bass
ok cheers

Welcome to having a sportscar siksx.Because of the stuff springs you now feel every little bump in the road and every little vibration the car or your sub makes. the only sugestion i can think of is silicon spray for the squeaks in the trim and learn to hold on.
Have fun mate

thanks stuc, but it still doesnt really answer my question i mean i know some cars do jerk abit but this is really dangerous i am scared for my life when i drive my car, it seems to be alot worse when it is wet to, the steering gets stuck pretty much any amount of turn, i can go into a corner, take my hands off the steering wheel and it will take the corner, i could go into a round about take my hands off the steering wheel and ill keep going in circles, when it is wet doing a U turn my car will like slide fowards and sideways and thats going like 5 km/ph(kinda like when you try braking on gravle u can turn the steering wheel but the car wont turn fully). i had a suspension check prior to fixing my suspention and the dude said my power steering was contaminated could that be why?, few bushes etc arent in the best of shape
one other thing my A/C switch, it is the one where the 2 pipes come off the A/C idle valve and go to a little box about 4x2 cm behind the coil thing on the strut bar, any one have a spare one lying around? as mine is stuffed
sorry for the big annoying post

sik_sx -> sounds like your wheel alignment has been h4x0r3D - probably your castor is way out (given your description), go to a professional wheel alignment joint and get it checked out, and don't go to some Bob Jane T-Marts or El-Cheapo Tyre Lads Anon., they might be able to fiddle with your average joe's car but you are better off finding someone who specialises in suspension tuning etc.

I suppose I could mention that it might be worse than just a bad wheel alignment, but it sounds to me like something is stuffed and needs fixing. It's possible that the new struts and springs has put extra load on a steering component and broke an already weak linkage. Anyway - get it checked dude.

i have an ST162 ST! even though it has the 3SFE it goes harder than all of my mates cars Theyve goa an auto N/A silvia, RA60 Celica, and Escort. I wipe them all away and all i have on the car is a 2" mandrel bet exhaust from ET.
Selling it though for around $5000 to make way for an AE86 YEAH!!!!
My gearbox crunches it when i go hard though....any ideas, only does it when i change into second from 1st or 3rd at over 45km/h. sucks when downshifting, i have to push really hard to get it in.

how much did the 2" mandrel exhaust cost ya?
the crunching is a common fault in a 4th gen celica (mainly 2nd gear)
and yea $5g is a big much for a st, but good luck if you can manage it

for those that could be interested, and i wish id know u were looking matt86sx...
i have a complete, undamaged front grill assembly for a prefacelift 162 for sale
story is, i hunted around and after 2 years, finally managed to get a complete undamaged set, just to pick up the assembly i really wanted 2 months later off a facelift parts car. so i now have no use for this set.
will sell or swap for another facelift set as a spare as they are rare and hard to find over here.
sell is $50ono (ignoring dollar difference between aus and nz, its too close to worry about) for the set, swap is just each pay the shipping each way.
heres the pic of it, and i do have closeup pics if anyones interested

sorry my car is still really dirty from the panelbeater and all his over-spray crappy stuff, and it's just dirty
I mounted the catch can under the ignitor with it's bracket taking advantage of some of the bolts that holder the heater connections in place, works great, they are big strong bolts so have not had any problems in the year? I have had it there.
My catch can came with two pipes, an in, and an out. If I had my time again, I think I would get a catch can with two 'ins' and two 'outs', or at least two 'ins' to collect from the pipe that comes into the rubber throttle-body -> AFM pipe. Not all celicas had this one, but us aussie ones do I think. This also sends dirty air into the manifold and I would like to clean it.
Some people run catch-can oil back into the sump.
Hopefully my first diagram explains it all

yeah it's a great place for it actually, as it's out of the way, yet accesible, and you don't have to run longer hoses or anything for it
the only draw back I might imagine is getting in the way when you replace the fuel filter, however, the can itself is super easy to remove, so I am not worries

Thanx for that write-up and those pics Rob - i'll make up a coke bottle can tomorrow or something. Gonna put my brakes on tomorrow and fix my leaking sump and do a full fluids change (oil, gearbox, brakes, clutch, fuel filter, oil filter + plugs) sometime too, so hopefully my car will run a lot better and wont leak oil...
cant wait for the dyno tho, very interested to see what i put out.
I'll keep you up to date

Good news, got my 2 and 1/4 inch exaust on, cat is getting replaced next month now because of the bad news, but it sounds awsome, sooooo nice
Bad news, pull in my drive way after some spirited driving, noticed my radiator was leaking (I have been loosing bout 100mls a week prior), long sotry short its fucked, $400 I dont have for a newy.
So yer kinda puts a downer on things.
Does anyone know where I can get a good radator in geelong/melb for a nice price.
Cheers fellas
