TCC sunday 13th feb - cruise to Queen Mary Falls Tue, 08 February 2005 14:56 Go to next message
hi folks,

info for non Toyota Car Club (Qld) members ... we've got a cruise up to Queen Mary Falls - in the grea dividing range - this Sunday for a bbq lunch. It will be an all day affair returning sometime around or after dark.

Leaving 4x4xmore at Salisbury at 9:30am,
heading to beaudesert via Mt Lindsay Hwy,
onto Boonah then up through the Great Dividing Range
possibly on to Killarney
then to Queen Mary Falls National Park.

keen readers of the Sunday Mail may have seen a writeup about the falls in november.

You will need a full tank of fuel, the hilly bits are supposed to be interesting but not as challenging as Mt Glorious/Nebo or Mt Mee.

It's likely we'll stop at towns on the way for any supplies and/or driver rests. The plan is to get to the falls by lunch

note: the roads should be mostly bitumen, but the climb from after Croftby thru the range will be a bumpy and (judging by the whereis map) has unsealed sections.

If there are issues on this approach into the range, we can head south-east from Boonah to Rathdowney, over the border to Woodenbong and then west towards Killarney.

There are a number of walking tracks at the falls ranging from 15 mins to 2 hours, more info about the park is here: <http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/projects/park/index.cgi? parkid=43> and in this PDF <http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/publications/p00138aa.pd f/Queen_Mary_Falls_Main_Range_National_Park.pdf>

The return trip route can be decided in the arvo - option 1 is to return the way we came, option 2 is to head towards cunninghams gap (avoiding warwick), option 3 is to head towards woodenbong and return via the Mt Lindsay Hwy.

Drivers/hanger's-on should bring the usual: refedex & SEQ map, UHF radio, anti-sunburn stuff, a comfortable picnic chair, camera, some snacks (in case you don't find road food apetising), painkiller (4-5 hours of exhaust drone can be painful), bbq food.

The club will have the drinks esky and we're bringing the club bbq for those wanting to burn their own meat once we get to the falls.

cheers,
charles.
